Thank you for your advice. I like the Epson V600, sounds like it will get me started and at a reasonable price point.
I'll ask again when I outgrow it!

I realize this question has probably been posed before so if it has, please just direct me to the right place.
I have recent need and desire to add a scanner capable of working on old(from the 1800's and early 1900's) pictures and probably slides. I would like to enlarge on the scanner and remove specks, cracks and whatever. I don't want to spend $1K maybe $300- $500 is more my thought. I would consider a used item. Microsoft compatibility at this time. (Apple later?)
This is a new avenue/endeavor for me. I would think I would outgrow this initial unit after 6-12 months as my needs would increase. Learning my way around without killing the pocketbook is my main objective. All suggestions are welcome and thank you very much for listening.

A certain picture of a sailor kissing a girl and many other unnamed subjects that are now ironic were taken in a era when we trusted each other as Americans. We grew up in a golden period and we should be thankful for our parents for making us strong. So many outside influences have pervaded our society that now we wonder "Who lives next door?" Many people don't even know their neighbor let alone let a stranger take a photo.

Now that you mention Cameta....Way back when, I met the owner and I purchased a few things from him directly. He was always honest with me and his used products were very clean. Just thought I'd throw a kind word where it was due. Thanks again for the expanded view everyone has afforded me.

Thank you every body for the input. I don't want to buy via eBay or mail order. I would like to go into a camera store(yes there is a real live family owned one near me) and check out the handling and whys and wherefors of the D3300,D5300, D7000 & D7100.

It really is great to have informed people that share information. Thank you again and I will try not to lurk and become a bit more involved.

Sorry I forgot to mention a budget. I'm thinking $600-1000. If I sold the Hasselbald 500C plus accessories or any of the dated Nikons I could go much higher but they have a lot of memories attached to them.

Hi Everyone,
this is my first post, but I have been lurking in the shadows for about 2 months and now your posts have me thinking about my camera bag.

In the past I have shot everything from 110,116,120/220(Hassey),620,35mm(Nikon), and 4x5(wooden plate). I got into digital with a Coolpix 995 and my trusty D40x. I think its time to enter 2014.

What Nikon would be my best bet that would have manual override, eye level viewfinder as well as screen, accept the AF-S 18-35mm(1:3.5-5.6Gll) and Nikkor 55-200(1.4.5-5.6GEDVR). I also have many Nikon AI lenses that I would consider adapting if possible. I like the compact size of the D40X but I want more control and speed.

I would consider used as well as brand new. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
