I want to add more 'pop' to my blsack & white photographs. The processing program that I use has the sliders for the various colours but once employed they do not impact the images greatly or should I say sufficiently. Would I be better served by purchasing a set of colour filters?
Thank you in advanc e for your consideration of this topic and any responses that you can offer.

Color filters for B&W film are used to lighten or darken specific colors. The don't just automatically add "pop" to a photo. You must determine which colors to lighten or darken to achieve the effect you want. To darken a sky you use yellow, orange, and red to increasingly darken skies. Those Ansel Adams photos with almost black skies were the result of a red filter. Green filters are often used to filter red from skin tones. The same thing applies to post processing filtration. Like others have said, after getting the tones the way you want them you may have to do additional processing to add "pop".

April 14 was our local papers last delivery via paper "boys" it is now going to come in the mail so won't be ready for me to read till the end of the day. Been starting my mornings reading the paper over my cereal and tea for close to 50 years, no more. I chose to go digital, at least the news is not old news by the time I read it. It was a slow death, first they stopped the local press and started coming out of Indianapolis, so suddenly you didn't get the sports from the night before, you get it from two days ago because for them to get the paper printed and down to Bloomington, they go to press too early. They say that instant media is their downfall but when they responded not by figuring out how to get the news sooner, they started taking even longer. Bad business plan.

When I was still working, I had unending problems having the paper delivered before I had to leave for work, which they were supposed to do. I finally canceled delivery and went digital. I found I actually preferred it as it was easier to read from my laptop, and I could make the text larger if needed. I can get the actual newspaper in PDF, and they also send links to the latest news all day.

The bench seat and three on the tree reminds me of a Chevy Impla my father bought in 1965. My mother insisted on a bench seat in front, and my father wanted a standard transmission to teach us kids how to drive. I'm not sure if three on the tree was still available back then, but my father wanted the four on the floor. Usually Chevy used bucket seats with a four on the floor, but my father was able to special order it with the bench seat.

By the way, daily newspapers still exist, but probably not in the Central Missouri Woods.

Gee guys, when I grow up I hope I’m just like you. I need to go to my safe space now. Give me a break dude I don’t post very often. I am so sorry. I put it in the wrong section and I hope I did not disrupt your day.

It's no big deal. Like I said, it happens all the time. I just wanted to make sure you knew the requirements for the section you posted in.

Top of the scroll says Photo Gallery.

It was originally posted in Photo Analysis. Admin must have moved it to the correct section. Happens all the time.

I stand by this observation from study and practice: "Overall, effective image composition remains integral to a worthy photograph."

Effective composition is certainly important. I think the negative responses are to the use of the word "precepts", which is an even stronger word than "rules". Some photographers have a natural ability to compose photographs without using rules or precepts, which can become cliches.

Since this is Photo Analysis, you are supposed to ask something specific about the photos you wish to have analyzed.

It would be really great for concerts or any event where you need high ISO's for those low light situations.

That makes no sense. Take away a lot of light for low light situations? Even with high ISOs you would get very long exposures, which won't work for concerts or events.

Aha! Ansel Adams said he made the photographs. I think make and manufacture have the same meaning right?

I assumed that Retired CPO meant by "manufactured" some kind of composite or items added to or removed from the original.

This is true. But where is the line between "improving" and "manufacturing"? There must be one somewhere.

No need for a line. Photos have also been "manufactured" since the beginnings of photography. It didn't start with digital.

One "can" be. But when one "needs" to be the graphics bubba, one has not done one's job as the photographer.

Improving the image that comes out of the camera has been an important part of photography since it was invented.

I know but that is how it is. Although the court didn't deny that the monkey was the photographer they denied his right to the image. I guess it's like Paul said, the monkey took the picture but he couldn't take picture out of the camera and he didn't own the camera.

It wasn't a matter of whether the monkey could take the picture out of the camera or owned the camera, it was a matter of whether animals (other than humans) can own a copyright.

Is composition more important than exposure? Without a good exposure composition will not help.
Just saying.

But it can be easier to fix an incorrect exposure than it is to fix a bad composition.

I don't know about that. A couple of years ago there was a huge kerfuffle about a monkey that grabbed a camera and took a selfie. It looked like a pretty good portrait to me. Whether or not the monkey or the camera owner was the photographer and therefore owned the rights to the image ended up in court. I never did hear how that one ended...

It wasn't a question of whether the monkey was the photographer. A case could be made that he was. it is a question off whether the monkey owned the copyright to the photo, and it was ruled he didn't.
