I was fooling around in PS and tried the AI to look like an oil painting. I worked with a recent boxing photo. It reminds me of the old LeRoy Neiman works for Sports Illustrated. What do you guys think?

I need some suggestions regarding a telephoto lens.

I have Nikon D850 and Nikon Z6II. I’m looking to get either Nikon 200-500 f5.6 or a new Nikon 180-600 f5.6-6.3 Z lens. My dilemma is regarding how good the Z6II would be with this new Nikon Z telephoto lens.

I can get the older Nikon 200-500 f6.6 lens with FTZ Adapter and use it with Z6II as well as with Nikon D850.

If I get the new Z lens ( which I prefer) I’m stuck using exclusively with Nikon Z6II.

Howe good would Z6II be with FTZ Adapter and Nikon 200-500 f5.6

Any impression regarding using Nikon D850 and Nikon 200-500 f5.6

Any thoughts from someone who is using or has used the above combination…!

Thanks

I went ahead and jumped over to mirrorless, trading off DSLRs and lenses over a 2-3 year period. I was one of the lucky few who got a 180-600 Z lens in the first early release. It is a terrific lens, slightly lighter and definitely more reach than the 200-500.

I was using a 300mm PF and a 500mm PF with my D500, and then with my Z9 on an FTZ. Sold them all when the 180-600 arrived and it is one fine tool on my Z9. I keep my old Z6 for astro and backup, but it is headed to the sale rack when the Z6III comes out. I had a Z8 but sent it back after 30 days because I feel the longer lenses balance better on the Z9 and I found myself using it more.

In a perfect world, I'll have a Z6III with my 17-28, 24-120 and 70-180 and the Z9 with 180-600 for wildlife and sports. Lastly, I'll probably add a Z400 4.5 prime too. I haven't missed and F mount lenses and feel like these Z lenses are superior in sharpness. Since the Z9 4.1 update, the AF now stands toe to toe with Canon and Sony equipment.

Hi all my UGG sport photo friends. Quick question.Has anyone ever had a lens release not work and not been able to get lens off camera? Did you send somewhere for repair or know how to get it released. It is on a Nikon D800 with 24-85mm lens attached. Thanks BE SAFE!!

Tom

I once got my 300mm PF stuck on my D500. It would not budge. The problem was a bent thread on the lens. Also almost stuck on an FTZ adapter the week prior. Sent to Nikon and they had to replace the lens mount and receptacle mount on the camera. Cost me about $450, but at the time cheaper than replacing both.

Bluetooth is pretty slow, especially with those 45+ mp files. Just get a CFExpress card reader with whichever connection your iPad has, (lighting or USB-C). Or if you already have a reader get the appropriate adapter.

I dunno about that. My Z9 rips them off pretty fast to my iphone using that horrid app Snapbridge.

When I last opened LRC some of the folders were grayed out and indicated 0 pictures. It’s as if LR now can’t find them. Not happening to all folders. Just some. All folders and pictures are still on my external hard drive, backed up on an additional hard drive and backed up to One Drive. Any ideas why all of a sudden LR doesn’t see the folders and pictures? Also, my One Drive account is full and will not back up. What is best cloud backup? Backblaze or others? I use Windows 10. Recent ads for Windows 11 seem to indicate it will offer cloud backups. Is it worth looking into?

Greyed out means you have already imported them, somewhere. You may have moved some outside LRC. Also, you may have imported to OneDrive, not the external drive. Windows 11 tends to want to send everything to OneDrive on my work PC instead of C: drive (I use Apple at home). My last desperate try would be to import again, using Add to Catalog and allowing duplicates.

I just can't tell you how many times I hear about file management problems for those who use Lightroom. I personally won't touch it because of my lack of understanding with the required knowledge to operate Lightroom with out issue. I find it to simply copy my files via the operating system, that is select and copy, keeping the image files on the original source (camera card) then deleting after I confirm the files are where I want them and in the proper formate. Once I confirm the files are there and where I want them, and a backup is confirmed, you do do as you wish. Lightroom and its file management system is just too complicated. I deal with thousands and thousand of images, butte to the fact I mainly shoot birds. I don't want to run 1/2 way around the world and end up with technical issues. I have a friend I traveled to Barrow Alaska last summer to photography arctic waterfowl and come home and loose all of his images because of his lack of understanding of file management systems in Lightroom.

Nothing in your answer helps the OP solve his issue. People who rant about not understanding LR must have never been to a library and used a card catalog and the Dewey decimal system before. Same concept. Find your favorite Sports book in Section 701 -713, unless somebody picks it up and moves it elsewhere in the library. The book is still in the library, just cannot be found because it was logged into section 700. Your book arrived at the library in the mail (the SD card), was unboxed by the librarian and labeled for storage (importing files) and placed on the designated shelf (your hard drive structure). Editing a photo is akin to making notes in the book margins or highlighting a paragraph. But change the book cover for a Biology book or simply carry the book somewhere else and dump it on another shelf and suddenly LR went crazy!

Actually they won’t be in the trash because they were imported directly into Lightroom and were never in another location to delete from. The OP was under the impression that LR was converting them during import. Once deleted from the card they only exist on the computer is where Lightroom copied them too.

Sorry if I misunderstood. This statement led me to believe he had transferred to his PC before deletion.

.... As part of my workflow, when I finish culling and processing photos from a given shoot, I delete all the photos I'm not keeping. I do this on the PC, not the camera, which was a recommendation I read on UHH several years ago.)

I still stand by retracing his workflow steps and checking camera settings. Lightroom doesn't misbehave on its own!

I can't really investigate the folder I imported into because I have already culled and processed the keepers, and deleted the rest from yesterday's shoot.

Thanks for any thoughts, as usual.

1) If you have not emptied the trash on your PC, the photos in question should still be on your PC.
2) Paul is correct. I have never seen software have a mind of its own. Software is stupid and only follows your directions. That applies to LRC and software on your camera. Retracing your workflow steps will often find your misstep.

This is a tip I did not know!

I couldn’t understand how he was adjusting the temperature while the mouse pointer remained stationary on the image.

The trick is to mouse-left-click the TEMP text, to the left of the WB slider, then the +/- keys adjust the slider.
Apparently this works with any slider.

Interesting concept. I went back thru a few of my RAW photos shot under different evening lights and tried it. I found it rather time-consuming, but it worked. However, I usually shoot on Auto WB in camera and most were already close. For those that needed more adjustment, I just hit Auto WB in LR and got pretty much the same results.

Great timing! Speaking of, I'm camping at Myakka in April. Mostly for birding. But will there be any equine action that time of year?

NC State held their annual Red-White gymnastics exhibition to showcase their team. These were shot with my Nikon Z9 paired with the Tamron 35-150 f2-f2.8. Shutter speed was 1/1000-1/1250, aperture as wide open as the lens allowed, ISO was a bit all over the place from 3200-8000. A few from the event attached.

Nice shots! Were you credentialed on the floor, or just front-row seats?

There is no "Open Catalog" on the File menu.

I've never heard of clicking on the catalog file in any context. Doesn't seem I should have to do that to import the catalog.

I don't think you installed Lightroom Classic, but rather Lightroom the cloud version. There isn't a Local tab in Classic. Easy to be confused, it was part of Adobe's ingenious marketing plan.
