I removed the downloaded program, which got my monitor screen back to normal, well, my normal.

This time I decided to have the Spyder check the calibrations of my laptop instead of having it just go in and do it's thing.

I don't understand what any of this means and I am hoping that someone will be able to explain it to me. Here is what the results were

CURRENT / TARGET
(I am assuming these catagories means settings)

If you have Windows 7 and the Windows Live Photo Gallery you can use the Effects section to convert the image to B&W. Photoshop Elements can also do that, and probably Picasa and all the other picture adjustment programs.
Gamma - 2.2 / 2.2
White point - 0.314 0.338 / 0.313 0.329

70% sRGB
53% NTSC
54% Adobe RGB

There was no other information that I could see to write down other than the above.

I am not going to have the Spyder re-calibrate my laptop right now. I am hoping that one of you that understand what these above numbers mean can advise me as to whether I should have it recalibrated or if there is something else I can do to keep the Spyder from turning my gray scale into a brown scale.

PLEASE HELP!!!!

Just finished Scott Kelby's The Digital Photography Book. Here is his take on how many pixels one needs:

for 5x7 print 3 mp
for 8x10 4 mp
for 11x14 5 mp
for 13x19 6 mp
for 16x20 8 mp
for 24x36 10-12 mp

He says what to consider is how large you want to print your final photograph.

I hope the the right area. I found a box of my old photos a long with their Negs. does anyone know of anyplace that can scan the Negs and send the photos as jpeg to me?

If you want to outsource it, there are lots of sites on the internet. I used www.digmypics.com. I have used them in the past and they produce quality images. For 35mm negs, expect about 80 cents a piece (per frame).

There often classes, at community college, community education, adult education, education for seniors at colleges and universities. Many are short (one a week for 5 -7 weeks). Usually not too costly.

Might be missing the boat here but my photos are stored on my computer. (I do back them up.) I upgraded from PSE 7 to PSE 10. I just open the photos with the new program. I am not familiar with catalogues and don't know where they are stored. At any rate, if your images are on your PC, you don't have to do anything but install the old software and install the new. Awaiting correction!!!! :)

I want to sell some of my best wildlife photos on very nice canvas prints.

I have tried several and so far the best I have found is Costco's.

Here's what I would like to be able to do and hopefully some of you can help me make the right decision.

I would like to be able to place an order and have the work done and shipped directly to the purchaser. But I want to know that the buyer will be getting a great print that is stretched on a good frame and wrapped round the frame with the true edges of the photo and not some lined-colored gobbly-gooked look.

Who do you guys use and who do you recommend. I do not want it shipped with a put together frame, I want it so when it arrives all they have to do is hang it up.

Thanks to all of you for any help. Buglinbilly

My experience with Costco has been great. Their canvas prints are very good quality. You can have them framed. You can go to the store to check out samples. And when you get towards checkout you can specify having the item shipped to an address other than yours (or picking it up at the store). The only downside I see is not previewing before it is shipped. I ordered a canvas print for myself, and didn't notice a couple "flaws" in the image until it was already on canvas. Usually I order a print the size the canvas will be, unless you are going really big. Then I can see what I might miss on my monitor. :)

(Meaning when you are ordering on line and get to the checkout part of the process. Did not make that very clear.)

I don't know the name but it appears to be in the succulent family from the way the foliage looks. Also, since Grand Canyon Caverns is a park, perhaps a ranger there could help ID it.

So many neat snow pictures, Shelter Cove, I love your fence scene...looks so peaceful... We just got 3-4 inches here ...now I have some inspiration!

Thanks! That storm was quite a show. Several feet deep in some places. One misstep & I was over knee deep! I like how the lower fence wires iced up and the ice seems to have separated from the wire.

Thank you. It boosted my life outlook a little. Being retired, divorced and now living in an apartment, I have had to give up major gardening, koi pond maintenance, home renovation, and all the things I have cultivated through life. So then I took up photography. I can't tell you the definition of "aperture" but I know what I like. Someone took a chance on me and that felt good. I think now that I will start looking on line for a course in Photo 101. I can really use the money but don't expect to even pay the electric bill with my little cheap camera. My ego got a little bump and that was more important than anything, especially at my age (65).

Follow your heart!

That is great that they took a chance on you. I wish I had someone to take a chance on me right now. I am young and starting out and I would like to go back to college and take some photography classes, but my family doesn't want me to do that right now. Maybe the future will hold something good for me too and I can earn a living from photography or at least get paid for some of my photography. (Something else that my family doesn't believe that I can do.)

I purchased magnification lens at my local camera store. It's been a while so I don't recall the prices but they were very inexpensive. They come in different magnifications and screw onto the end of your lens like a UV filter does. You can even stack more than one on at a time. They are sometimes known as diopters. Amazon has a set of 4 for about $15. Of course quality is a factor so I would check the reviews and shop around. They are described as +1, +2, +4, etc. I got some really great close ups with them. Do need tripod though.
