Good Morning responders. All the person wants to know is he is asking for an opinion. All I saw were snide remarks. If you can't say something good, don't say anything at all.

I believe that is called hoar frost. That white tail doe is looking very healthy. Very nice photos from my home state.... love South Dakota!

Excellent and very unique tongue shot. Never seen one like it. I think you have a world premier here.

Thanks Hereford, appreciate the kind remarks!

I once read something that suggested a bird with a hook or barb on their tongue (eagle maybe?) that was used in holding onto prey once caught. Looks like that Heron might also have a similar thing going. Either way, excellent capture ... loved the detail.

Thanks Frank! I do believe that is the case as you can sure see the barbs!

Very cool shot! Looks like you were able to get fairly close?

Thank you. I had to sneak real slow, but got about 25 ft from him.

Nice shot. That is a weird-looking tongue. I'm sure it has some specific functionality.

Thank you. I have yet to see one drop a fish once it is in their mouth; maybe that is because of that tongue.

Beautiful shot of a juvenile Black-crowned Night Heron. You are right about those tongues. The softly blurred background puts that beautiful bird front and center!

Thanks Mike. I thought it was a Night Heron but it just didn't look right to me. Being not mature explains a lot. Thanks for the info. It was full sized and that is what thru me.
