Thanks for commenting. Now that we've "both" had our say we can get back to the topic.

If you read my entire post - I did get back to the topic.

By the way, one other unusual item I carry in my bag (well kind of unusual) is my FD-RF adaptor. I still have several FD lenses that I use one my 1984 Canon T70 film camera and I sometimes like to adapt them to my R5 just for grins. Actually not bad, but of course only manual focus possible.

This thread is getting dangerously close to Attic time. It doesn't deserve to go there. I will be dropping out now.

Seems to me the discussions have been reasonable and respectful (so far). That being said, maybe we could get back to the original topic of what unusual stuff we keep in our bags (besides the occasional firearm that some of us sometimes have).

As I mentioned earlier, in my night photography bag I keep a lens warmer and a plethora of head lamps and various Lume Cube panel - style LED lights and a few small multi colored tactical flashlights (for light painting). I also keep a wired intervalometer handy. (One of these days I'm going to get a wireless version).

Lastly, I carry a nice hefty Anker PowerCore+ 2600mAh 45W power pack that I use for a variety of things, but mainly for powering my R5 all night while shooting star trails.

Whatever you do, don't confuse the air tags for the breath mints!

I had the same experience several years ago. Didn’t even need to touch the gun. The five young studs hit the road when they noticed my gun.

Aside from camera gear and the obligatory usb drives, card readers, cables and chargers, I always have an Apple AirTag and my custom UltimateEars Bluetooth in ear monitors, Kindle and iPad mini. I never leave home without them. I also have a small Cartier screw driver that fits the Cartier love bracelets. Never know when you will need to take them off.

Putting Apple Air Tags (well hidden) in your bag is a great idea.

Yep. I wouldn't own a firearm without knowing all of that. It's a huge responsibility.

I have two main bags. One is a Billingham medium sized bag. Nothing really unusual in that bag My R5 with a ProMediaGear L-bracket usually attached, and my main 3 RF lenses, extra cards, batteries, a set of Maven magnetic filters, cleaning kit, and my Peak Design Slide strap.

My other, bigger bag is a "Fro Knows Photo" "I Shoot Raw" Think Tank Retrospective (hey, I got it dirt cheap barely used and it's a great bag). This is my primary night Photography bag in which I can carry my camera, my 14mm 2.8 lens and a couple of EF lenses with an adaptor. What might be considered unusual are my Lube Cube light panels and my various head lamps and tactical multi-color flashlights for night time light painting. I also carry a lens heater for shooting at night for long periods.

I carry a Model 1911 .45 ACP! Don't know if that would be considered unusual??

Nope.

I just learned of two eclipse programs to automate the shooting of the eclipse. One for PC called Eclipse Orchestrater and one for MAC called Eclipse Maestro. Has anyone used either of these? Or plan to for April 24?

That has worked for me the few times I had a stuck filter.

I do have filters on most of my lenses. I have gotten into the habit of loosening filters a bit and retightening when I mount the lens on a camera.

I recently bought a set of Maven Filters. They are magnetic and you can stack them, if needed. Hopefully my days of stuck filters are mostly behind me (although I do still have some screw on filters for certain lenses). I only use filters when I have a specific need.

Anyone else planning to shoot with two cameras? I'm hoping to have one camera set up to shoot the eclipsed through all phases, including totality, with phases on both sides. I will be shooting at a high angle with a stature as my foreground (want to have the eclipse arching over the top of the statue). Since the sun will be pretty high in the sky, this was about the only was I could figure to get something of interest in the foreground.

Does any one know of any videos or tutorials that show how to do the post processing for such a shot? I'm assuming I will be making a composite but just not sure what the process is for this kind of shot to get all the su shots with an evenly light sky. I don't want a fake composite, I want the resulting image to show the sun in the actual locations relative to the statue (foreground) throughout the entire shooting period.

1. Never use silicone. If you contaminate the lens it is very difficult to remove.
2. Do NOT use any liquid lubricants
3. if you wish to lubricate use (with a toothpick) the tiniest amount of a dry lubricant on the filter thread. If any of this dust gets on the lens surface, it can be blown off or taken off with lens cleaning tissue.

Something like dry graphite?

By the way, these days most of my filters are Maven Magnetic filters, but the filter holders still have to screw on.

Don’t screw them the hell so tight! Stop twisting when you get resistance in your turning.

Yeah, that's good advice of course.

@JVada posted about an issue he has involving a stuck filter that he can’t seem to break loose to remove. I didn’t want to hijack his topic, but it got me thinking, “is there anything that could be put on filter threads to minimise the potential for a filter getting stuck?

I’ve had some difficult filters in the past but I was always eventually able to get them off.

Just curious if anyone has any home remedies for treating filter threads or is that just not a good idea?
