I didn't enter this in the Windows contest. It was taken a couple years ago, instead of recently. My childhood friend Anita and I were exploring an area near the French Market when I saw this storefront window that seemed to capture so much of what I love about Nawlins. I get a feel of the age of the city, its culture, and its very unique sense of humor, in one shot.
New Orleans is a dream come true for anyone who loves to take pictures!

Thanks for all the information. It's good to know what I can, and can't do! I haven't attempted to use anything on my 60D but EF and EF-S lenses, and probably won't try anything different, unless I do run across some very high end lens that would really be worth the effort.

So far as the Rebel 2000, I had to stop at Walgreens last night, so for giggles, I checked on replacing two batteries and buying some film, just to see if the camera was in good condition. The batteries were 16.00, the 200 speed Fiji film was close to that for two or three rolls in a box. That alone makes me appreciate digital even more!

And I decided testing the camera wasn't a big priority right now! LOL

So I learned something new today! Canon made EOS film cameras that shared lenses with their digital models. That solves the mystery. So, if I get the notion to shoot film, the lenses in my kit should work on the Rebel 2000,if I understand this. Thanks!

I know this is an old topic, and until today I thought I had a grip on it. I just got my first DSLR about three years ago, A Rebel T3i. I was looking for additional lenses, and was told the mounting system changed when the digitals were introduced, so you couldn't take the lens from a Canon film camera and use it on a digital, and vice versa.

Today, at a yard sale, I saw a nice tripod very inexpensively priced, and it had a Rebel 2000 EOS film camera with strap and lens cap mounted. I bought it for 15.00. Later, I was telling a friend who shoots weddings about it, and she informed me when she switched to digital, she was using that very camera and the lenses interchanged with no problem! So, I mounted my EF 70-300 and it fit perfectly. The battery was dead in the film camera, so I couldn't test the auto focus to see if it worked.

So, here's what I really want to know. What, if any of the older lenses will work? I run across some occasionally, and actually have had offers to give them to me, and declined, based on what I had been told and read.

We only had one real camera store here, and the box stores have put it out of business, so there's not a lot of places to get expert information.

If it's been covered to death here already, I apologize. I'm on the way to a Kenny Rogers concert, and I'll check back later and hopefully have some pictures to share!

I was helping my friend Lisa find a house to buy, and we saw this. I had to take a picture of it!

That would be great! My last trip down, I stayed at the Lafitte House on Bourbon Street. First time I drove, and the first trip outside the big hotels, and I loved it. Will let you know, and thanks!

I like that! I didn't see that on my short river trip! Can't wait to get back down there. Maybe I will make it again this summer.

It's a small world, to have someone with that information see the picture the first day it was on here! Thanks for the information!

It came with the 18-55 and 75-300. The deal also included spare batteries, several filters, a tripod and a case. The shutter count was only in the 7500 range.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I'm looking forward to spending time here, getting to know people, and learning more about my hobby. It'll be great to pass along what I learn to the 15 year old I am mentoring, and some friends that are getting more serious about photography. I'll definitely refer them to this site!
Even though I primarily shoot with my Canon, I also have a Nikon D80 that I recently picked up from a coworker. I'll be working it in as time goes on.

Thanks! I'm relatively new to more than point and shoot photography, and it's become a major passion. I wish I'd started years ago!

About a year and a half ago, a childhood friend and I spent a week exploring New Orleans. On our last day there, we took a three hour lunchtime cruise on a riverboat, and I was glad I had my camera with me! I was drawn to some of the old docks along the Mississippi River. I'm sure some of their condition might have been due to Katrina, but also the effects of years of heavy use.
I saw the coal being loaded onto the barge, and was determined to get a shot of it just as it was released. It took several attempts, and I was on a moving boat as I was taking it.
All were taken with a Rebel T3i.
The building caught my eye, with it's condition and the message painted on it.
There's a lot of reasons to love New Orleans. Great music, fine food, and some wonderful places to take pictures!
