When I started using CS4 & then upgraded to CS5 I deleted Elements 7 off all my computers. Why settle for sardines when you can have fillet mignon?

Cause sardines are $1 a can and Fillet mignon is, well, not.

Randy, good suggestion. I have already ordered the low cost tube set. Will play with that for a while then perhaps get the focus set. So the camera, sees and focuses on the bird or fly? It does not become confused by focal length etc? (I know your answer or you would not have recommended the focus tubes but elaborate on your experience please.)

I haven't tried the tubes yet. I have only seen them available for different cameras stating auto focus. Keep us informed how the low cost tubes work. I'm very interested as like I said, I haven't had a lot of luck with the filters.

Check these out:

I read this article and after a couple of read-overs I think I understand. But there are a couple of things bothering me.

First, I thought the focal length was the distance from the lens to the film/sensor plain, but according to this article they are two different measurements. Have I been misinformed?

Secondly, the article doesn't talk about the maximum focal distance. I know with those little screw on filters, you not only can get closer, but you have to. Is that also the case with extension tubes?

Just curious because I've been really thinking about getting a set of tubes. I just can't afford a true macro lens, but I love macro photography.

I have Photoshop Elements 8 and Lightroom 3, I was considering Photoshop CS5, do I need it?

Is there a difference that I would benefit from?

In my opinion, if you have to ask, then no. When you hit a wall and only CS5 can help, you'll know.

+1 on Sinatraman's advice. The D90 may be older, but it's a very well made camera and difference from 12mp to 14mp isn't really that big a jump. And a very good point on the focus motor in the body. It opens up more -and less expensive- possibilities in the future.

If you are having a problem with the email client resizing your images down, you may try using an online storage to convey them. You can set up an account at Photobucket and restrict access. Then just send the password to those you want to share your photos with.

OK. So here's what I don't understand and forgive me if I'm looking at this a little too simply. Why can't the photolab just print it have white edges on two sides? I mean if they have to resize a little to get the 12" edge down to 10", so what? My printer does it all the time.

You mentioned you're not registered on eBay. It only takes a few minutes to get completely set up with an account. Same goes for PayPal( The preferred payment method for most eBayers). Some film cameras are in fact quite collectible, and some are completely worthless as far as selling. I would research market values for your particular items on eBay. It's a very good source for at least judging what people are actually willing to pay.

I would be very cautious dealing with the $1900 camera stores. Remember the old saying "if it seems too good to be true, it probably is". The B&H price of $2300 is very reasonable though.

I think by way of composition, I like #3 the best for a magazine, but it is too blown out on the right side for my taste. I agree with an earlier post that your background should be clean and out of focus. In my opinion, I would also go with a different color on the background. I find the pink too close to the skin tones for my liking. These are all just my opinion.

Are you comparing to the 50mm 1.8 or the 18-55 kit lens?

I personally would go with the extension tubes. I've tried the screw on filters and while not terrible, I haven't had the best luck with them. You can also get extension tubes that have the connections to keep auto focus if you want to spend a little more (about $60-80 on ebay).

Well, I just wanted to post a link to what I think is a neat grey card set. I had linked to it in another post some time ago, but can't find that original link so here's what I found today.

BTW I notice tensions are running kinda high in here lately. I don't know what's going on, but everyone seems to be at everyone's throats.

Well if you had read the second post I explained where I was coming from. If he's going to buy the bigger lens, then it cost less to buy the 60D.
If it's not in his budget to go and get the bigger lens now, then he will just have to pay more later to get it.
Before you make general statements you need to read the whole post.
I understand everyone has a limit, I was trying to be helpful.... you should have done the same.

:hunf:

Wow people sure are defensive around here lately. I actually wasn't referring to anyone in particular. Just the overall propensity of people to make the comments like "for only a little more". I've read hundreds of threads like this and they all seem to have that theme. I've even been guilty of doing it myself. As far as trying to be helpful, I think everyone is trying to be helpful. I would apologize for offending you, but quite frankly, I'm sick of that. Everyone has an opinion and everyone has a right to express said opinion. If it offends someone inadvertently, too bad.

BTW, I make it a point to read an entire thread before posting. It can be a real pain as not everyone does and there are a lot of duplicated remarks.

Randy,
I was referring to those who consider themselves pros because they have pro (Sic) quality cameras, 5DmkII or any of the Canon 1Ds models or Nikon D3s. It all still boils down to the individual, I shoot Fashion, am I Dan Leca, no, or Randy, no, but I do get a lot of work and make a good living.
I have seen the work of many of the so called pros, and know many that are not pros who put them to shame. It is the person, not the equipment that makes photography an art, the equipment just makes it easier.
br br Randy, br I was referring to those who... (show quote)

I agree, but that has nothing to do with technology. That's about money. I suppose I should not have used the 5D in my statement. If Ansel Adams were 14 today and someone gave him a kodak P&S digicam, he'd still be Ansel Adams. But if he were born to a poor family and the only way for him to be great was to have a medium format camera and his own darkroom, guess what? He'd be working at Wendys and the world would miss out. That's why technology is good. It's the only thing that even begins to equalize masses with the wealthy.
