1) I will go with Samsung when the Lexar card craps out

2)Just to be clear, the card was backed up just before the failure...the loss was limited to 3-4 days of shooting. I think that Nikon had a great idea in allowing 2 cards in the 7200. Too bad that went away. I did not remove the source files from the card after backup...another habit the needs adjustment

3)Maybe several posters are onto something in using smaller cards. I usually shoot jpeg + NEF. NEF files are large. It is possible that the problem was caused by the camera not being able to write to the card at the same rate that the 3 fps NEF's were being produced. I shot multiple sequences of surfers from popup to wipeout....appx 1 minute per sequence more or less. The SDXC format can handle up to 2TB....I believe that if your camera can read 64 gb it will also be able to read 2 tb. I do not recommend this for other reasons...just sayin'

It seems to be getting more difficult to find smaller (up to 32GB ) cards as file sizes increase. I use 16-32 now.

Continuing my series about my vacation to Europe, here is Milan or Milano in Italian.
I didn't stay long (a day only) because I still had to visit other cities in Italy and had already been to Milan 25 years ago.
As always, all pictures were taken with Panasonic S1R/18 mm F1.8 and S5/24-105mm,F4.

More photos at https://youtu.be/mldKrQ5bQwI

Enjoy!

Lovely shots. We had 2 days in Milan late in 2022 and your shots are much better than mine.

Yes

It is the older one. It has always been firm/stiff to zoom but performs well, if noisy on the Pentax. Since my post I have seen a solution which involves heating the rubber in a moderate oven for 14 mins to shrink it. A refence to boiling in water too but these seem a bit drastic. There are new rings available on ebay for the HSM version and I think the sizing is the same.

I do have a Pentax 17-70 mm which is heavier and sometimes slower to focus. I got it new very cheaply, no doubt because its SDM(sudden death motor !!) is prone to failure so I am always reluctant to take it on trips away overseas in case it lets me down.

UPDATE

I have been overseas and now I have returned I have been brave enough to remove the rubber- interesting. There must have been some adhesive which has now turned soft and slimy. Also the rubber covers two thin brass plates , 20x 10mm , which cover some slots over moving parts and clearly act to transmit the settings electrically. They are held in place by a clear tape, like Sellotape , under the rubber. One of these has come adrift. I now am working on removing the old adhesive and reinstalling the brass and rubber.

I am 2 weeks into a trip to Italy. I have been to Europe many times before Covid but I noticed the accelerated change in photo taking, as we know. I have seen relatively few cameras especially DSLRS, more Canon than Nikon, and even a lonely Pentax which I also carry. My wife has an Olympus OM 10 and on a winery tour the guide said to her "you have a real camera and I have not seen one for a while ". Of the 9 in our group doing a tour only one other used a camera-a Canon rebel I think.

Most people use mobile phones (me too on occasion) and they can deliver good images but they are slow to use and I find them hard to use in strong light.

FYI

I am going to update my comment on this. We are still travelling. I still prefer my DSLR, a Pentax, as it is quick and easy to use , zoom in etc., however my wife, who uses an Olympus OMD 10-iii, and I both use our mobile phones at times. We notice that there are many times that the phones deal better with some situations, such as glare, better than the cameras. Her phone in particular, a good Samsung, is better than my mid range Oppo (which cost about half of hers) and can produce great photos. It is easy to see why phones are becoming the way to go.

Good idea with the double sided tape. I have that lens and it is real good. Do you have the older version; 17-70, 4.5?

I have a Sigma 17-70 mm lens which has had quite a bit of use. It is great optically but the ribbed rubber grip for zooming is loosening from the body of the lens. Has anybody else had this issue and, if so, is there an easy fix. I contemplated taking it off and trying to reglue. Any helpful comments appreciated.

I need to update this. I am now in San Gimignano and have seen many "real" cameras, some serious kit with massive lenses etc. Also saw many phones.
