It was a beautiful warm day today, 74 degrees and partly cloudy, unusual for this time of year. We went to the Hiwassee Refuge to get outside and enjoy it, took a few more shots of the sandhills that winter here.

Nice work Sleepy. I've made the short trek over the plateau to Hiwassee several times but never carrying more than 200mm (300mm on a crop cam) so have never come close to your images. You've inspired me to make the 200-500 leap.
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, Raz Theo! You won't regret the 200-500!

What a beautiful set! You have captured, what for me, is essence of Sandhill cranes. I see them on the ground and I wonder how in the world they could possibly fly....and then I see them in the air and I am stunned by thier grace. Well done sleepydrdr!
Phil

Thank you Phil! I appreciate your kind remarks. I do love the sandhills.

Super! I live in White County. Four large flocks flew over yesterday while I was out with the dog. I thought it was a tad early to be heading north. They usually wait until the beginning of Feb. Do they know something we dont? Hmmmmm....

Thanks, amyinsparta! I hope they're not headed back north, very cold up there.
