When posting in the "Classified" section, yes.

Gotta love the Grand Canyon. I also really like your avatar, smiling people in strange far-away places remind me what it is to be human!

I'm sorry for repeating myself, Terje you did it again! Beautiful! How fortunate you are to find yourself in such locales that present opportunities to make striking images. You do fine work. I always enjoy your posts.

I've misplaced the link to your page though, would you mind posting it again?

The D800 is a complex high end instrument, its not a point and shoot. If someone is not interested or not willing to make the investment in time and effort necessary to master its intricacies, he or she may be better served by getting a D5200 instead.

I like my D5200, but I would love a D800E and a stable of fine FX lenses to go with. Alas, my modest budget won't allow it.

I like SteveR, I like my D800e, I like the Book by my fellow Nikonian, Darrel Young, I like UHH, I love photography.

People who not tolerant and compassionate cause me to loose my tolerance and compassion. I don't like that.

I second that! A few regulars here could do well to remember this is an online community of like minded folks sharing a common basic interest. Communities are always better when everyone respects (in open comment at least) their fellow members.

I'm certainly interested, and I think there's an easy way to get the message across: just say what you did instead of step-by-step instructions for a certain program. Eg, "First I cut the exposure to where shadows lost detail and highlights were nicely visible. Then I lowered contrast until shadows just barely held detail". Et cetera. I suspect though that some of the best processing is a closely held secret by some members, same as the precise location where they took a particular shot.

I agree, step by step isn't needed. I think of what Ansel Adams did with his work, spending much time and effort in the darkroom making prints. He was known to return to a negative years after he took the shot and made the first prints, and reinterpret the image as he made new prints with different techniques and/or emphasis. His vision of the final image he wanted to create changed, even while using the same original negative. Those are the kinds of things I'm interested in.

Thats really strange Searcher, as I posted earlier mine stopped at Long Exposure. Guess as I have been here since The Hogg started they made some changes in the format. But stranger still non of these show up in the (Newest Topic & Active Topic) sections. If they have this many another one is not going to hurt anything.

When I go to the home page, only the sections I've subscribed to show up. Maybe that's why you see fewer sections, you're only seeing the topics you have subscribed to. I go to the 'all sections' page now and then to see what's going on in all the other sections I don't subscribe to.

I noticed today the 'cutting room floor' section is actually closed, even though it still appears in the list on the all sections page.

This is why UHH works because we all (well nearly all, LOL), try to help each other, oh and BTW my lass ("wife", for all you UHH's across the water) is from South Yorkshire (not her fault). I'm pleased the link helped.

Glad you found offers valid on your side of the pond.

There is no voting membership here James, this is a privately owned Blog/Business Venture.

I wasn't sure how sections were decided upon. I see a new section was created in May having to do with books, so someone felt that was a good idea.

The two of us have had our disagreements about this topic, but I respect your opinion. I might not agree. Since being labelled a ranter, I want to be sensitive to the opinions of others without offending.

I understand your point Moose but you will be asking for a mutiny by going against the goal of the HOGG.

Clearly, I'm in favor of a new section, but I don't want to go against the will of the majority. I'll pitch my idea to the administrator, but ask if it can/should be posed to the membership as a referendum.

Through the rear-view mirror on my Camry. Wall art discovered last weekend on the side of a restaurant. A few tweaks to the RAW image while playing with my new copy of PSP X5 - boosed saturation, high-pass sharpening and a little extra sharpening on top.

You did the right thing. It's the right thing because you are happy with the photos you are making. There are many cameras to choose from, while some folks have their opinions about their favorites for a variety of reasons, there really is no 'best' choice.

The Sony you bought will serve you well I suspect. It has some pretty cool features. I use another brand, but my choice was made out of loyalty and because I have access to lenses that work with the camera I chose. I think your choice was as good as any for the price point, maybe better than most.
