The common advice for computers seems to be that you never have enough memory. I often use my wife's iMac 21.5" computer. She didn't need heavy processing, so I ordered her the basic Mac. Looking at the specs, I was amazed to see that it has only 4 GB of memory. I usually get 16 GB for my machines. Looking online, I learned that it can hold 16 GB, and the prices were good. One site had a link, "Do you really need more memory?" - or something like that. They had comparisons of iMacs with 4, 8, and 16 GB. In several tests, there was virtually no difference between 8 and 16 GB. Only when processing huge files or doing intensive processing in PS, did the 16 GB show a significant advantage. So, it looks like I saved myself $80.

The amount of memory does make a difference but I found the biggest difference is in the speed of the processor; ie., a 2.8mip chip is noticeably faster than 2.4
