You shouldn't have idled so long - these are top-notch, so I hope you continue 🥨🥨🥨🥨🥨

Thank you so much for your advise, I and my wife finally settled in our new home in upper NY, but our selling of my house in CT is not done yet but near the end for closing, then I will get my attention back to photography. It was a long tough process between us and the buyer through the the realtor agent. We both are near 80, and may not can take car of our self any longer, we are lucky that our daughter offered us to live with her and our son-in-law. We know the last path of our life is heading to nursing home and it will be end of it! Now we have a new hope and will start to enjoy our life again!

For me it’s the Nikon Df whose retro design revived my passion for photography when I discovered it in 2015?

I knew at the late 2013 and I instantly ordered it and never looked back! Before that I have been using the D200!

The 43-86mm f/3.5 was quite popular back in the days but I didn't have one. Now I heard that some say it's the worst Nikon lens ever.

Let me respond to the original thread first, Nikon Df is my favorite for 10 years since 2013 and it still keeps me going!

Yes, I have this 43-86mm f3.5 Nikkor since 1972/1973 with my Nikon FTn and Nikkormat FTn SLRs, but it is a non-AI lens. It has a problem when shooting towards bright light sources such as Sun light, it creates ghosts in the image. It is a bit soft in the image. I modified it to AI to fit my DF. On that time I got it as my standard lens to my two Nikons instead getting a 50mm.

I'm 76, memory seems to decrease each day. 20 yrs ago I had a camera, either a Pentax Program or Ricoh XRP, had both, don't remember which I used. But it allowed me to place it on a tripod near my birdbath with a 36 exposure roll of film and it would take photos till the roll ended. I could set it at different intervals from 15 seconds to 60 seconds between exposures. Got a lot of good bird photos that way but don't remember the gear I used. Any old time film fanatics out there that might jog my memory? I was a collector and had about 40 cameras, Pentax, Ricoh, Nikon, Mamya 645, Yashicamat 6x6, Rolleiflex, and a host of old rangefinders

Yes it sucks! Every part of your body is going down hill fast! This is life, we can't live forever and it is fact and we need to accept that. I am nearly 80 and still enjoy what I love most, the photography. I have been enjoying it for more than 40 years and Nikons are my main camera brand. I still have a wish before I kick the bucket, I wish I am going to get my last camera, a Leica DSLR, It maybe a SL/SL2. that was my life long dream.

We have an annular solar eclipse coming up so started to practice.
Much harder than I imagined!
Keeping sun centered while almost overhead even with swing out screen not easy.
Several errors so far, should have used higher ISO, wish Z fc had cable release
Nikon Z Fc, Sigma 150-600 at 600, Sigma TC 1401 tele extender tripod and Thousand oaks 95 mm film filter, full frame not cropped
Shot at ISO 100 f/9 1/60 manual exposure autofocus ( lens goes past infinity at stop)
Dallas : not quite clear ski
I think spots are solar spots, they show on all frames
Please let me know your thoughts and plans for next eclipses

Very nice Sun image with Sun Spots. Thanks for sharing!

I have some images of last Sun eclipse on 8/21/2017, I used three different cameras that were all mount on a tripod. My cameras are Nikon Df with a 35mm lens; Nikon D200 with a 75-200mm lens and Panasonic super-zoom FZ-50.
Here are the images:

All of them were taken with multiple images and then pasted together in one single image. I used thousand oak filter, the third one was intentional converted to B&W. All the images were not as clear as I expected because of the appearance of the light-cloud that moved in and out of view during the time lap of several minutes each!

Not like Yellowstone! You can find scenery anywhere!!

How about Alaska Denali& Tundra Wilderness, I have been there a couple times, I saw more wildlife than Yellow Stone, Especially bears, including Grizzly bear; brown bear and black bear! The others like Caribou; Wolves; Dall Sheep and more. I love both places, they are two different environments.

I am excited to be traveling to Yellowstone in Sept 2024. I would like to be able to get snapshot type photographs of wildlife but my focus will be on landscapes. Carrying a D7200 with 10-20mm lens and a D750 with 24-120 lens. I have a 80-400mm lens but it is old and not very reliable and HEAVY. I will be flying from the east coast with at least one plane change. We will be staying at Grant Village and planning a kayak tour and a guided hike with one full day and one partial day open for general exploring. I might bring a small laptop but I'm hoping to be taking photographs not editing. I would love to hear suggestions on differences photographing north west coast vs. east coast, traveling with cameras, keeping cameras safe, things to not miss. I have a Pelican box but I think it is too big to be on the plane with me and I want the cameras with me on the plane. Anything you can think of that I need to know. Thanks.

I have be there several years ago, I only carried a 24-50mm for land scaping, and a 300mm prime and a 1.4x converter for wild life, plus a pair binoculars that was enough! Any thing between was not much different, I were very happy about the images taken home. You take either wide land scape or long distant wild life photo, You can't or you don't want to stay too close to the wild animals especial the bison and bear. By the way, I with my family rented a SUV that we can travel where we want to by following the map of Yellow-Stone!
Good Luck and have plenty of fun!

A question...... I am not a wedding photographer, but I like shooting with a quiet camera. I have a mirrorless that does just that. I heard it mentioned that there is a DSLR that operates quietly. I would be interested in such a camera. My problem is that I do not enjoy looking through an electronic viewfinder. I would enjoy looking through a quiet optical viewfinder. Tell me more.

MY Nikon Df! I used it for my daughter's wedding! It is a ten year old DSLR already! I would like to have a mirror-less , that is a Leica range-finder camera, I am waiting when the time is right!

I bought this lens from Adorama in 2018 for my daughter's wedding to use on my Nikon Df, of course it was used. It is a great lens for every day using and I love it so much! Good Luck! Hope it will land into a good hand!

Digital "teleconverter" is a misnomer, it is simply cropping the image and discarding pixels.

Same as digital zoom function in some early digital bridge cameras, it corps the frame to make it seems closer/larger!
