I used the RBs for studio work and the 645s for weddings and locations. RBs on tripod, always. A beast to handhold, but I never noticed an issue with the 645s. Either had gotten used to the sound, or perhaps slightly deaf. Very likely both.

Both systems served me well. Never had any reliability problems and the lenses (all but the 80mm f/1.9 which was slightly soft at wider apertures) were excellent. Certainly not Hasselblad or Leica quality, but nowhere near the cost, and I never had any complaints about "fuzzy pics." At least when I did my part and focused sharply. Those, nobody saw but me and the printer at the lab.

To generalize with Leica quality? - I have read reviews which favorably compare a particular Zeiss lens with a Leica of similar specification - both of which I have owned.

Not sure what “toy boy” means. My original intent was to reminisce about the satisfaction I feel and hear when the trigger is tripped. Why does using a certain type of equipment make You a judge of others? I am not understanding your attitude. I remember how satisfying it was to row through all five years on my BMW while doing the speed of heat on the Autobahn.
Not sure what You mean.

Perhaps my lack of understanding rather than yours, in that playing with the camera (the toy) seemed to be more important than producing a great pic (more likely with mirrorless) which is always my goal regardless.

Or a medium format Mamiya 645!

What an under-rated camera that was.

I think they must have been Gnomes in your mirror

When people look at an image from a mirrorless camera, they see the difference not just with their eyes, they feel the difference in the depth of their heart.

So which way is your thinking? Which ever - do you mean from the bottom of your heart or the heart of your bottom? - I think the second option would be more appropriate!

True, but that does not obviate the enjoyment of classic equipment, e.g., cars or other objects that offer a manual experience.

A manual gear change provides a choice, which a "clunk click" camera doesn't - except to kick it into touch!

Selling some DSLR gear. Took my D500 in hand and snapped a few pics. Great feeling and sound. That mirror moving up and down brings back fond memories.

Anyone else?

Having been mirrorless since 2008 (with Panasonic M4/3) I guess I am qualified to think that you must be a toy boy as much as a photographer. I shoot for the pics rather than the "Clunk, Click every trip"

Sony RX10ii (fixed Carl Zeiss lens, f2.8, 24-200). V iii and iv have a 20 x zoom - for my photography, not so good, and bulkier.

I bet you can tell the difference in certain prints.

That's a sweeping statement. By "certain prints" do you mean 30x20s and larger? after heavy cropping by a photographer who doesn't have the expertise to fill the frame? and likes to stick his nose on the glass?

20 MP in the right hands will be a whole lot better than 45MPin the wrong hands.

I "shoot loosely" (to crop later) when I'm in a hurry during a tour, or when I'm not sure just what my focal point will be or if there is more than "one picture" in a particular scene.
Sometimes, depending on the crop I may isolate several pics from one scene.
I also "shoot loosely" to provide "template material" for any of the different print sizes that may be required, such as . . . .
4x6
6x9
6.67x10
8x12
10x15
12x18
13.33x20
18x27
20x30
30x45
40x60 and so on. I realize that it may be deemed as a crutch, however, I find little difference in shooting loosely than a sports photog "spraying shots" to capture peak action.
I'm also guilty of that technique too.
In other words, it is just another tool in my kit bag.

Edit: I always have Topaz Photo AI if I crop too deeply.

About 25 years ago, I decided to treat myself to a "vanity" watch. I looked at a number of them, including Rolex, Omega, Audemars, Tag Heuer, Omega, IWC, etc. In the end I decided on a Breitling Chronomat. I still wear it, although not every day. It's been serviced several times for CLA, and it keeps superb time, while not quite as accurate as my quartz Seikos and Citizens.

I still see the ads for the fake Rolexes. If you're wearing a fake, no one knows --- but you do.

Depending on the circles you associate with - most will just presume your wearing a fake, and your credibility will take a dive.

Well, I "purchased" a refurbished lens from Amazon to expand beyond my squirrel stuff.

Canon 18 -135 f/3.5- 5.6, Image Stabilization, USM. I realize it's not the best; however, this is within the budget at this stage. I have 30 days to try it, as it's a free return.

So I took it out for a spin to the nearby place where I did the signs. It's a nice place with beautiful trees, which I like photographing. While it was great to have a lens I could use to get these shots, I missed my other lens when I saw a bird and, yes, a squirrel! I confess when I played enough, I did switch back to my other, and yes, I got several pleasing squirrel shots.

I included the Robin, which was taken with the new lens because I liked that he had something in his mouth. Nice surprise when I discovered it when I edited it.

So here's what I did. I don't have much experience with this type of photography, so I gave it a try! Please feel free to comment.

Nice pics - but viewing your pic #8 download filename indicates that it's PPd with denoise, sharpen and exposure adjustments, which negate an assessment of your new lens?
