Moron the First did all that for a tax write off. Who would not give away money if it can be use as a tax right off.

You claim to have been a tax preparer- I think the IRS had better review all the tax returns you prepared with charitable donation write offs. You CANNOT write off a gift or donation to any person or organization that does not have the proper 501(c) designation. Not a single one of the gifts in the article would qualify for a tax write off.

I was thinking about this just yesterday when I heard that news. IF I get it my plan is donate it to the local vet house. I am not wealthy, but I get by on my SS check, small retirement payment, and the small rent check from a disabled senior friend who lost his home due to tax foreclosure and was living in a motel- and up until this year I was working part time. I still have enough to live paycheck to paycheck and my house is paid for as are my vehicles (all 15 to 20 years old - a Jeep, a pickup truck and a RV), and I have enough set aside each month to pay for my property taxes and insurance. I feel blessed.

Thanks for posting this- if I ever get out to Arizona I will definitely check out this museum. My dad was crew chief of a ground crew in the 306th. Always love to see this plane.

Nice photos. Any idea how it got off the rails?

I have no idea what happened here - when we saw it first it must have just happened recently as there were only a couple employees at that time. As we watched more and more employees came on the scene.

Some nice shots, there. It looks as if that railroad isn’t used very often.

Actually we used to see quite a bit of activity here- on the Canadian border - however last summer the railyard was empty. I'm not sure what is happening there. It is right next to a giant Alcoa plant.

Driving over the bridge south of the railyard in Massena NY we saw this engine stopped and of course we had to turn around to get a closer look. Ended up watching the workers for almost three hours getting this engine and the car behind it back on the rails. It was very hard work - made more difficult I'm sure by the tight space they had to work in.

Thank you for posting this- it was wonderful- I just wish the pictures didn't go by so fast - a slower switch would be nice. I too saw the documentary several years ago and was fascinated by her work. Many thanks go to the photographers who saved these wonderful images and brought them to the attention of the public.

Thank you for posting this article. It gave me 52 good laughs to start my day. I am not numerically challenged, I just included the title and last sentence of the preface. Number 41 is a particular pet peeve of mine and I cringe every time I hear people start a sentence this way.

I believe. Thank you for sharing this wonderful experience.
We were doing what we do every New Year's Eve - open the door and ring bells outside - a tradition handed down from my Mom.

I think I was about 6 or 7 years old when I caught my Dad setting up the Lionels around the Christmas tree on Christmas Eve. Until then, seeing the trains on Christmas morning was the work of Santa Claus !πŸš‚
Merry Christmas πŸŽ„ everyone.

Sounds like your Christmas tradition was almost the same as ours- the tree went up on the train platform (bare) on Christmas Eve, and Santa decorated the tree and set up the train. Only difference - we had American Flyer !! We still set up the tree and train on Christmas Eve

My mom and I were there the summer of 1980 while visiting my brother who lives on the Long Beach peninsula in Washington. The devastation was mind boggling. The number of downed trees and the depth of the ash were astounding - hard to believe anything could come back from that. I still have my jar full of lava pebbles that I found washed up on the beach on the peninsula

Steamtown is a must see for all train lovers. Lots of trains and a ton of old train cars in the back of the building. You can stand on the bridge that goes over to the mall and watch the steam trains pass right under you ( and get a faceful of steam in the bargain!). And the museum itself is awesome. Another fascinating attraction in Scranton is the coal mine tour- very interesting and you get to ride in coal mine car down into the mine and walk around in the excellent guided tour.
