The Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 has been made available in the USA but not in Europe yet. Has anyone in the USA bought one and, if so, what do you think of it?

You should look at a rubber lense hood-very cheap. Put the lense right up to the glass

May only be that the battery is not registered to the camera

This may sound even more so but I have put my laptop in a cardboard box (open at one end ) for years. I can use it anywhere but just look very silly!

Have a look at IIyama-I have the 27" Prolite -fantastic
Big enough to put two applications side by side like a 2 screen system and the graphics are so good it needed no re-calibration

Just bought it but got a cash back which softened the blow. You get a lot with this lens (less glass for a start) and the aperature is constant. Faster shutter speeds are one big plus and this is a great lens for moving around to take people shots with lots of depth of field. Painful but very pleased I got it after much deliberation!

Have been considering the Sigma 150-500 V Canon 100-400. Apart from price any knowledge on the comparison (apart from an extra 100mm obviously). I have heard so far that the Sigma does not perform well at the top end.

Firstly, don't leave it in the car for all sorts of good reasons.

I have problems in cold weather with batteries. They just stop working. Best tip is to keep a spare in your trouser pocket to keep it warm. Simply change them over as required.
Your camera should stand most temperatures, I have just returned from high temp and no problems.

If all else fails I was given a good method by our local motorcycle agent for those having trouble getting a new bike purchase "approved".

Your camera dealer rings your home when you are not in and explains to your other half that you entered a prize draw for a new lense the last time you were in the shop and you have won the first prize! Need I go on...

The trip to South Africa is worth investing in a decent lens. The Canon 100-400 lets you have a good reach and shoot close ups without changing a lens (not always time with wild life). Also, very dusty out there and a good tip is to take an old pillow case and put your camera in in whilst you are in between shots. The Sigma 50-500 is also versatile but heavier. Landscape I use the Canon 17-40 wide angle which is very good. Lots of 100-400 lens available second hand but they hold their price. Don't know where you are but try EBay where you can get one used for about £800

Try bobbooks at www.bobbooks.co.uk they are good and you download the software rather than a remote service. Quality is very good-try the open flat option.

I wear glasses for both distance and close work-a photographic nightmare. If you focus in your viewfinder by adjusting it to suit your sight without glasses it helps but you still have problem of how to see the controls etc but autofocus is fine. I use a Hoodman Loupe over the screen to view the shots I have taken and look at the histogram (you can adjust the eyepeice again here). Also, put the camera into live view and you can shoot through the Loupe as well. Recently, switched to contact lenses and this does solve the problem completely.

Interesting that you refer to it as "two languages". I worked for a US company for a while and saw some interesting situations develop due to misunderstandings with our common language. I wonder how the Spanish get along with the variations in their language...

Whoever owns the language it is very strange-consider these
The bandage was wound around the wound, the Dove dove into the bushes, he was too close to the door to close it, the Buck does strange things when the Does are around, he did not object to the object....
