Thank you chinaman...I get what you mean about the whites...but could you somehow explain the halos you are seeing?

Hi Cyn
I have zoomed into the picture and circled the parts that are most obvious. The halo is apparent even without the downloading.

Masterful conversion! Such great tonal range. Being a perfectionist, I would pull back the white a bit (with levels) to bring back the details on the white snow on top of the engine and clone out the halo around the first 4 objects on top of the engine.

Nicely done, jeep daddy. You achieved what you wanted - a bit more pop on the dock on the right. The rest of the image looked better too.

Learning to shoot black and white. Used a red filter on this. C&C welcome.

Digital on mono camera setting or converted in photo-editor or scanned B&W film image? If B&W film, I think a yellow filter may have been more effective. The red filter has dulled and under-exposed the whole scene. If digital, shoot it in colour and convert to a monochrome in a photo-editor without losing the colour data. You can then edit the colours(ie shades of greys) or apply various coloured filters and further editing to make the image look the way you envisaged it.
A good B&W image should show a good range of tones from white to black and contrast, which are lacking in this image. Good luck with future attempts.

Excellent images. Pity about the cut-off mountain peak on the right and base of the fencing in the first image. Very good stitching. Which program did you use?

And the snowman's jaw dropped when he heard it.
Do you see a man's face in your picture?

About two years ago I joined the UHH and this was one of my very first posts. I didn't get much of a response then, I wonder if things have changed any? lol

It was an exersize in working a photo that I took with type that I created with a rock texture. I love this photo of Half Dome in Yosemite National Park with the low flying clouds engulfing it.

I looked back at your original posting. You had 3 responders - all positive.
I love fonts. Used to create my own when I was a kid. Even wrote them on my white sneakers! Now I have over a thousand different fonts on my computer, most waiting for the right opportunity to use them.
Your font is very appropriate but I feel it is too large for the image. Additionally, there is too much of the rocky surround and much of the scene has been lost.
Love the idea though. Maybe try again?

Would be useful to see a 'normal' exposed image to compare. Looks like you were quite gentle with the HDR. If you need more vibrance, you'll need to do that in a photo-editor.

Guys, your brains need a flushing out! When I looked at it, my thoughts were 'this image would have benefited with a horizontal format and some sharpening'. I didn't even understand people's comments until magicray's joke! Am I dumb or pure in thoughts?

Recently, I spent a few days in Jacksonville, FL and had nothing to do at night so I took my camera out and shot some photos around town. The weather was crummy the entire time I was there (40F and rain) so not only was I fighting the cold and wind but a very low cloud ceiling that in some shots gave quite a bit of sky shine. I have looked at these so much to try and figure out what to do, I am at a point where I am not sure I like them as is and have found nothing PP in LR that I have liked so far. Any thoughts, comments or ideas would be appreciated. The first shot has the least sky shine, the second two have quite a bit. Thanks.

Select the sky areas and darken them. Clone out flares if they still show. You may need to adjust brightness of the rest of the image to maintain a balance. The first image needs a bit more brightness to the buildings. Don't just darken the whole image or you will lose a lot of details in the buildings/bridges as demonstrated by other posts. If there are clouds in the sky, increase the contrast of the selected sky areas to show them up. I always think it looks better than a plain black sky. As mentioned by another member, the blue hour is a terrific time to shoot.
