It means that you don't need to update your firmware - you already have the latest version(s)

Quite honestly I would go with the Sigma. If you go with the Canon you may have to sample a number of examples to make sure that you have a good one.

and here's the Sigma test - only one lens though:

One of my favorite focal lengths for landscapes is the 135mm on a full frame or 90mm on a APS-C sensor, in portrait orientation. It's all to do with perspective and image detail size.

They look a little too soft for good prints to me. Gaussian blur?

The "Walkaround Lens" topic has attracted fascinating comments and counter comments. After discussing the specialized capabilities of zoom, fixed and macro lenses, Joel Sartore of "National Geographic" says this:

"A normal lens is how we see, and I really prefer that. I use a normal lens most of the time when on assignment for "National Geographic;" can you imagine that? I'm traveling around the world and I'm shooting which a 50-mm lens. Good grief. If you can pull of a good picture with a normal lens, it means you've really done something. You're really seeing something well. If you can take a really interesting picture with a normal lens, it means you've either witnessed something amazing or you're taking something ordinary and making it amazing. I means you're not relying on those super-wide or telephoto lenses as a crutch to get you to an interesting picture."

Every scene will will make a better photograph if the appropriate focal length is used, to give the best perspective and depth of field. As I can't carry them all around with me when going walkabout in the countryside, I will compromise by carrying a zoom of the focal range that I am most likely to need. Restricting myself to only one focal length is like playing golf with one hand tied behind my back.

On the other hand, when doing street photography in the city, compact size and discretion are more important than flexibility, so I may elect to use a rangefinder camera with a single prime lens such as the 50mm. which results in me having to hone my stalking skills and zoom with my feet.

Joel Sartore may shoot for NG, but that doesn't mean I have to agree with him.

You are wasting your time and money. You cannot step down in filter size from 52mm to 62mm on any lens focal length wider than around 50mm used at f8 and smaller apertures.

"CS" should not be used as a descriptor - it means "Creative Suite" and there is more than one Adobe creative suite. We normally refer to "Photoshop CS5 or Photoshop CS6 or Photoshop Elements 10 or Photoshop Elements 11 or Adobe Lightroom 3.x or Adobe Lightroom 4.0

I have posted my opinion regarding glass screen protectors before, but I'll keep repeating it: I attached a very expensive laminated glass protector to my wife's Nikon D3100, advertised as "impact resistant." She inadvertantly knocked the screen against the corner of a table at a sidewalk cafe and did not notice that the screen protector had shattered until she went to take a shot and wound up with glass splinters in her cheek. The glass splinters were paper thin and could have gone into her eye. I will never use a glass screen protector again. If you want to use a protector, use the flexible acrylic type.

I want to thank everyone who has contacted me personally and here on this post.

I do not talk behind peoples backs and I am more than happy for Admin to post MY communications here to show that I have been honest and not spoken ill of anyone, in fact I asked Admin to do whatever is best for the forum and not cause any rifts amongst members.

What really shook me was the responses from people like Wabbit and sarge69, who I am not singling them out especially, but we have never really seen face to face and yet, what they have done has made me "think" and I thank you, sincerely.

I did not mean any disrespect to the poster of the bird shots, it was a misunderstanding, and for that I offer my apologies.

Thank you one and all.

Why can't you download the Tiff file? If your connection is too slow, sign up to DropBox, which is a FTP (File Transfer Protocol) service and invite your cousin to sign up to a folder that you create. He can then upload the file into the folder and you will be able to download it. It's free!
