I received the following email earlier today from a "photo researcher" at 500px. Anyone else been down this road before & can offer any advice/insight for me?

What I'm waiting to hear from some reliable, facts-based source is what effect these actions would have had on all the recent shootings had these proposed changes been in place 5, 6, 7 or 8 yrs ago. In other words, which specific shootings over the past 5-8 years would have been thwarted had these proposed changes been in place.

I've used http://www.scancafe.com/ to scan over 4000 slides, negatives and prints and have been very satisfied with their process, results and pricing. One excellent benefit they offer is that after their initial scan, they send you an email with a link to view all the scans before they burn them to a disc for you. At that point you can eliminate up to 50% (if memory is correct) and not have to pay for them if you decide you don't want those.

Through a story too long and boring to recount here I have Lightroom and do NOT find it intuitive after ten years of using PS Elements. I had heard raves about the library management aspects of Lightroom.... so far not impressed.
I am hopefully acknowledging operator ignorance. What books do you recommend?

The Adobe Photoshop Lightroom CC Book for Digital Photographers (Voices That Matter) by Scott Kelby - available on Amazon and most book stores.

An interesting article (old but still worthwhile) from the folks at Lensrentals.com regarding UV filters.

I read the link! Please name a program that will permit complete editing of PDF files on a MacBook. If there is one (at a reasonable price), I would like to have it.

Have you looked at Docudesk products (PDF Studio X) and/or Corel Fusion? Not sure how you're defining "reasonable price", but these two seem reasonable. I've used the Windows version of both, but they are also available for Mac.

I prefer to use my own method of storing images. By doing it myself I know where everything is.

I like the KIS method and don't want clutter on my drives or in the registry.

Clearly, you don't understand the catalog portion of Lightroom. Lightroom does NOT move, or reorganize your photos. It does NOT prevent you from using whatever organizing method you prefer.

While my workflow may not be what everyone would select, it works well for me. I transfer all my photos from memory card to the desired folder on my computer, then import into Lightroom. If I decide I want to move any images to another folder, I use Lightroom to make that move. Have never had a problem.

If you haven't already, I'd really suggest you purchase Scott Kelby's book on Lightroom -- very well written, concise, easy to follow and thorough.

I would like to do more shooting from my car this winter. My AF-s 500 is to heavy to clamp to the window. I have tried resting it on a pillow on the window which works, but is a bit awkward.

Online I have seen an assortment of bean bags with studs to mount heads and some contraptions that seem to clamp to the inner and outer door panels.

Any suggestions? I'm in a Ford Escape, so not the kind of height to the window opening like a big pick up or suv.

Take a look at this alternative -- I purchased one and have been satisfied with it. The only negative I've found is that it's a little bulky, but works very well.

Pretty simple solution -- If you can't pay for the phone time, don't do the crime. No sympathy from me whatsoever.

Interesting photos but I don't believe the author did her research very well. One photo shows a B-29 bomber during the Korean War. B-29's were flown by U.S. Air Force, which became a separate branch of service in 1947 -- don't believe the Navy ever flew the B-29.
