Nothing
I appreciate the effort!
This should have nothing to do with it, but in Preferences > Performance tab, uncheck the "Use Graphic Processor"
then restart LR.
Try a couple of things.
In the Develop Module,
In the Basic panel, click on Auto Tone"
What happens?
History panel, click on the first (bottom) entry - "Import 10/22/2015 . . . "
What happens?
Click on Reset -
What happens"
I have a similar tripod but branded as Giottos. It is fine until the bottom section legs are in use. They are very thin and vibrate very easily. I now only use the tripod for supporting a flash gun.
I use a 10 foot USB cable to drive one of my printers. The first one I purchased from Amazon at a very low price just was not able to carry the data and power required - high resistance and low quality throughout. I returned it and bought a much higher quality cable (Belkin), works with no issues.
Cheap cable: poor quality contacts, high resistance solder points, high resistance wires, low quality insulation.
High quality cable: Gold plated contacts, low resistance solder points, low resistance wires, high quality insulation, strain relief built in, noise reduction devices built in.

I'm still learning Lightroom (5.7), and I have a question about the catalog:
Can I have the same photo in two places in the catalog? For example, I categorize by years and have subfolders of events within a year. That I understand. Can I also have a subfolder of subjects made up of some photos from more than one event subfolder? Yea or nay?
Comments welcome, thanks in advance.
Tsilva is exactly right. Using collections you can have as many copies as you like without actually duplicating the original files.
If you have duplicates in the folders, these are real duplicates and as well as taking up more disc space, can become unmanageable in time.
If you want duplicates with different edits, then Virtual Copies are the answer.

And this deals with photography how?
Absolutely nothing, this post is everywhere, I have reported issue.

Are any of you using a battery grip on your DSLR, and do you find that it improves your handling of the camera (I am not asking about its ability to increase number of pictures being taken before battery change)?
Pros:
The extra controls make life so easy in Portrait orientation. (Front and back control wheels, AF/on button, shutter release)
Better handling in both portrait and landscape mode
Cons
Adds quite a bit of weight to the whole assembly (the device and the extra battery)
More susceptible to vibration when on a tripod, especially in portrait mode

Since the update and subsequent patches, I seem to have lost all my discretionary "Edit in" options.
I would appreciate any and all help.......Thank you

I had never heard of Elements +. Very cool. It's only $12. Cheap. I hope it does everything it claims it can do.
Yes it does, I have it for Elements 9 and 11. Another user that I know of is Morning Star who is far more knowledgeable about Elements than I am.
Is this a Chinese Whisper, the thread and question was posed by E, not JD750.
Fortunately, the question was answered by Steve and Bob.
Elements 9 (and probably all the others) does not have soft proofing and can't deal with ICC profiles, but there is a way:-
There is an inexpensive plug in called Elements+ which does allow soft Proofing and use of installed profiles. this plugin does many things including working with channels.
Go to the link and see for yourself, it is an absolute bargain because it brings Elements much closer to Photoshop for a very small price.

If none of the above works, please come back with:
Are the photos showing in the Library?
Do you have a back-up of the images? -- I don't mean a back up of the catalogue.
If you do have a back up, are these raw or jpg files?
If raw, do they have xmp files?
