Thanks rmalarz for a close to, what seems to me, like a PhD level explanation of noise. I teach basic photography classes (non-credit) at a local community college and while I would never include this much information on noise it sure helps to have a better understanding of what is happening and why. Makes the instructor sound less stupid.

True, there is no Clone tool in Lightroom, I'm not thinking clearly. I was using the brush tool in Lightroom just a few minutes before seeing the question and just jumped, thanks for the correction.

I'm not sure I can come up with an answer but are you using Photoshop or Lightroom? That will help other respondents also.

I think you are talking through your cloth cap. RAW can be the best - it can also be total rubbish.

While I agree that RAW images can be poorly processed and then be "total rubbish" remember also, that ALL photos begin life as RAW images that MUST be processed, the choice is only, do you let the camera do the processing or do you take control. The camera processing does allow you some choices but those choices are usually made BEFORE you shoot.

My pics are on two 5 1/4 floppies.

Just for "real life" it would take 38 disks (the 1.44 MB ones in the plastic case) to hold ONE raw image from my Nikon D850.

It could help a little in low light, in daylight, I always shoot 2 or 3 stops in the minus side, colors come out a little richer.

This is one I've never seen before. I know some expose at minus 1/3 of a stop but 2 to 3 seems very low. However, exposing for the sky might take you this far.

For me, the purpose of the second card slot is so I will still have a card in the camera when left the first card home in the computer.

This could apply to many I'm sure. So far this has been my primary use.

No idea, but I duplicated my old slides with an old Spiratone slide duplicator from my film days... That said, I also have an Epson scanner that will duplicate them as well. Both options are a lot cheaper...

My Epson scanner will do the job but it's very slow.

This works great for me. Nikkor 28-105 D in Macro mode with daylight led bulb. It is fast and the quality is excellent.

I can do simple woodworking, so this could be a "don't buy anything" solution.

A cheap set of step-up and step down filter adapters should let you cobble together enough extension to position the ES-2 at the correct distance for the 105mm.

Hey, thanks. This could be a solution. Has anyone tried this?

I have a Nikon D850 and many slides and negatives. Nikon sells an ES-1 and an ES-2 adaptor. I have an older Nikon AF Micro Nikkor 105mm f/2.8 lens. This lens is, of course, capable of copying a slide or negative and the ES adaptors are merely designed to hold the slide or negative in the correct place. I'm told that neither will work with my lens. One video I watched showed the ES-2 being adjusted using it's sliding tube. Does anyone know why this won't work with my lens?

People capitalize it due to its evolved use as a term of art. As a term of art it is RAW. People started capitalizing it and it stuck. So now it is RAW. Just like now "among/between" are synonyms "affect/impact" are both verbs, etc... The tide of the great unwashed being given access to writing implements continues to roll over us...

I agree. It is what it is. I've always seen it in caps so I type it in caps.

All of my bent pin problems have been with cheap card readers, my Nikons have much longer card slides than many readers and align the cards perfectly and never bend a pin. So the only thing I have ever had to replace were inexpensive card readers, I've never hurt a card or a camera.
