Fly to Fairbanks tomorrow, then train to Denali Thursday. Hope to have internet Thurs. night to post some.
That's the same as our first two stops.
Went for a paddle boat ride near Fairbanks.
On the train to Denali, you may get a glimpse of Mt. McKinley. It'll be on the right side of the train. It's far off and the weather is so "iffy" around it, clear views are somewhat rare.
I took a shot that was pretty cloudy but at least I saw it.
Took a walking tour in Denali - quite interesting explanations of the foliage and the area.(there are other tours). Our animal sightings were an "attack" squirrel but a bear did run in front of our bus and we did see some caribou in a stream on our way down to Anchorage.
I could go on and on but you need to pack.
Have a safe and fun trip.

Maid of the mist

Great shot of the Horseshoe Falls. (I'm 15 minutes from there on the US side).

Anyone visiting should allow plenty of time to walk around on both sides of the border. Many opportunities to get very close to the force of the water on the US side. Panoramic views better from the Canadian side. Maid of the Mist is really something. You get wet. Definitely need camera protection.
Current improvements to the Bridal Veil area just completed.

My wife and I are heading north for an extended visit to our 49th state. I've been planning this trip for a long time. Traveling land sea and air.
Greg

Greg, we spent two weeks there a couple of years ago (land & sea). Took just under two thousand photos. It's a photographers dream. So many awesome photo opps.
Enjoy and have fun. Looking forward to your pix. Dave
Additional Info - Lake LH is located near the Village of Maywell, near Town of Chatauqua on Lake Chatauqua, at Lighthouse Point.

I think the Lake LH is near the village of Mayville.

Since moving to NY in 2000, I have been pursuing several interests of mine photographically - lighthouses and rural barns.. Here are a number of lighthouse images from recent travels. enjoy. comments and questions welcome.

Nice series woodsjesse. LHs are my favorite and I have taken a few around the country but I want to thank you for doing a series in WNY. Sometimes we don't realize the opportunities there are close to home. I've taken the Buffalo Harbor LH many times but I plan to visit some of the ones you've taken this summer.

These pictures were taken at the Balloonfest in Frankenmuth MI, in the evening. Something about the big beautiful colorful balloons against the blue sky is just breath taking. Do you have any Hot Air Balloon Photos to share?

Being an old Signal Corps guy, I just loved this balloon.

Great color in your photos. We had a Balloon Fest here last year (near Niagara Falls). Looks like some of the same balloons. Here are a couple shots that I caught. A lot of fun.

Yep - like to eat and also like to cook - It was a rainy day so I heated up the oven and baked this for a snack by the fireplace later.

My Mom used to make a cake like this.
We called it "Pineapple Upside Down Cake" I think because at some point, she'd have to flip the whole thing around.
(Hope I didn't give away any cooking secrets).

This is the first & last picture I took of a fish.
I don't think the fish was happy with my intrusion.

Or land in front of your camera. These kept coming back to a nesting box on a pole and as long as they would come back we were shooting. These are Western Bluebirds BTW!
I posted a few on the Challenge thread too!

Great photos. Thanks for posting. I've had a birdhouse in my backyard for 15 years which was meant to attract and house blue birds (Eastern - NY State bird). Sparrows beat out the blues every year. There's always next year I guess.

Thanks everyone for the kind comments. macy dave: haven't been to the tulip festival yet; some day!

Not sure where the tulip festival is but Puyallup hosts and is origin of the annual four-part Daffodil Parade, which takes place every year in Tacoma, Puyallup, Sumner, and Orting.
Hope you get to make both tulip & daffodil festival some day.

Great shot Linda. Thanks for posting.
Ever go to Puyallup, Wa.? I believe they had a daffodil festival there when I was at Ft. Lewis/Tacoma in the late 60's.

One of my favorite James Taylor songs was playing on Pandora and and reminded me of our great trip to South Carolina. Some of my memories....

Absolutely outstanding shots. Thanks for posting. Many photo opportunities in that area. Went there many times years ago, then stopped but returned last year and added the Gardens stop. Mixed feelings - my D80 went belly up while at the Gardens (last day of vacation). Not to worry, now I want to return with my D7000.

Great shots Bob. Thanks for posting. Portland Head LH my favorite. Been there a couple times but the snow adds something a little different to the image.

Nice shots. Got to see the Memphis Belle B-17 last summer.
Very impressive aircraft - especially up close & especially when you hear the history and stories which are numerous.
Thanks for posting.
