Not sure if I'm even supposed to post a pic here, but I saw the reference to Haystack and couldn't resist. Also my apologies for hijacking the OP's thread. ed

Camera mount quick release is with it. Just rotate the knob and camera slides off. I leave the mount on the camera actually.

I've standarized my stuff with Manfrotto tripod and camera plates. Whatever I have, I can pop it onto any tripod or monopod.

That's a good way to go. I am half way there but I use Slik tripods and monopols and their heads. My only problem is I bought a Opteka Gimbal head and I also use the Manfroto gimbal head for the monopol. I love the Opteka head. I could not afford a Wimbley or the other more expensive heads. The Optecka works great. I had to trim a little of their outside coating of but I knew that when I bought it.

My husband built me a center rod that fits my manfroto head so I can use it with the Slik.

If you have time could you send me a picture of his invention. Make sure to ask your husband if it is ok if you share his intellectual property by sending me a picture. I will understand if he or you dosen't want to. Thank You W48

I will send you a picture of it in a bit. He just milled me a piece that would fit a rod that fit the Slik and the Manfroto head.

Just ordered a new tripod from Adorama. It is the Cullmann Magnesit 519 AL Tripod w/HD Case. Special at $79.00 (shipping & handling included) & with google, reviews are good. Nice replacement for my old german mount that bit the dust.

Sarge

Thanks for the heads-up Sarge, my new tripod is on it's way. (well it's ordered anyway) ed

Looks like a good deal. Do you have to buy a quick release plate as well? I didn't realize that was an accessory. Curious, as I haven't bought a tripod for 20yrs., but definitely need one.

Everyone's friend that was posted here are all amazing, beautiful Dogs. I too have Dogs and will post them later. It makes my heart glad that so many people 'Adopt a Dog instead of Shop for one'! I work with a lot of rescue groups in the South Florida area to rescue abused and abandoned Dogs and whenever I see one go to a new forever loving home, it brings tears to my eyes. Thank ALL of you for caring!

Likewise Molly, thanks..

This is Comet.. We adopted him at age 9 (product of a broken home) and he gave us 6 more awesome years..

Definitely don't sell the Tamron it has a much further reach and I'm sure you'll use it. The question is if you should purchase the Canon with the STM Lens or without. I have a Canon 7D and have used the movie mode maybe twice. I may use it one day but so far I just haven't had a reason. You'll have to ask yourself the question, Do I want to spend the extra money for the STM Lens that auto focuses or not? If money isn't a problem I say go for it. The inability to not auto focus on the 7D is a bummer and is engineering faux pas of you ask me. Just know that if you do purchase the lens with the intention to sell it only people with the Canon 4Ti can use it. It will not auto focus with other Canon DSLRs as of now. Another way to go is buy the body only and spend the money you save on a nice prime or macro. Either way I'm sure you'll have fun taking images with your new camera.

Apologies BV for hijacking your thread, but I have a question for "outsider". Can you explain this statement "The inability to not auto focus on the 7D is a bummer and is engineering faux pas of you ask me." I'm getting close to purchasing the 7D and didn't understand what you meant by this.. Thanks.

Apologies for not being clear. On the new Canon T4i and paired up with an STM lens in movie mode the lens will keep focus no matter where you point it or if the subject moves. On the 7D you first have to focus on the subject then push record, then if the subject moves or you pan left or right or whatever YOU have to keep the focus by pressing the AF button, the camera will not. Only STM Lenses paired up with the 4Ti, and I'm sure future cameras, will keep focus automaticaly when the subject moves or you change the scene. Thanks you for letting me know that wasn't clear.

Love Bassets.. They make me smile, and it cracks me up how they get names like Flash (neighbor dog) and Rocket.. So the opposite of how they look.. Now Harley, see that's a perfect name..

This is Bob. We rescued him about 2.5 yrs. ago. Jury is out on what he is. He came wandering out of the woods with a chain wrapped around his neck and between his front legs. He also had a pellet removed from just under his scalp. We got him from the foster family. I am quite sure that it is he who rescued me.

Beautiful puppy! You'd never guess the wet shots are the same dog as the dry one. Rescued dogs know they are rescued and are so grateful. You've got a good one!

We do indeed. Yes he seems to change color in different light as well. I'm still not sure if he's red or brown.

We've actually had 2 or 3 big dogs at a time over the years too. Right now it's 2 so I can identify with the whole couch ownership thing. My big ole lab pretty much gets to do whatever he wants these days.
