<scott4...6> I have a Nikon d3300. I got a bundle package of the camera and a 18-55 / 55-200 lens set. I still have my 1980's film camera (Nikon EM) with a Tokina 75-200. although both Sigma and Tokina are good brands, i'm picky on what I call the "overlap" or "underlap". Tokina also has that same lens from 11-20mm. that way I'm not missing the 16-18mm lol. and the other gives me just 2mm (18-20) "overlap". depends if you care about that or not. and what is your next size lens up from that. again both brands are good. I like the old tokina I have. am looking forward to the new one i'm gonna get (11-20) this year. its on sale w/ rebate now at my local camera store. good luck with your decision.

<peterff>> well first, thank you for the sir. second when attempting to help others, newbies like me, I don't put others down like I saw so many people do when that person asked "a beginners question". and third did you read the whole thing I posted or just the part in < >'s ? re-read the part after "third...". thank you sir.

<to all jerks who put others down> my first reply everything was spelled correct. not sure it posted so did it again. then accidentally miss-spelled a word. we all make mistakes those of us who are human and living on the planet known as earth. second, I had caps on from previous work I was doing and when I came to this site it was still on as I was typing... not shouting. and third, cant we all get along and help each other as previously mentioned we all make mistakes. someone asked "a beginners question" and I saw idiotic put down after put down. really? that what this site is. for pros only who don't make mistakes ??? i'll try to put up with this site a little longer to see if there is an positive out of it as I to am a "newbie".

thank you for the welcome. maybe 2 days older. lol, j/k. I hope to learn a little from here. any bit helps. maybe I can even sell too. I recently inherited some good old 35mm camers. 3 canons, a Minolta 300, a pentax and a sony mavica (mini cd ). most need batteries to get going but after that, they should work good. they have been in a storage unit for a while, but they are just old school 35mm that should be good. just got the Minolta battery ($14) without the film camera works good !

you are correct. you have 18. (18-55) how low you want to go ? 16mm 14mm ? only 2 Nikons listed, besides zooms. (i'm looking at Nikon site now, lol) with the zoom you can chose 16 one hour and maybe 14 or 12 the next hour. might to bring in that other flower a little closer, lol. hence the phrase "to each his own". what you like, what you want. your choice. always glad to help a fellow Nikon / and/or camera buff. I feel i'm a in between-er. beginner/intermediate photographer. grew up with point and shoots and now got my first DSLR but learning quick.

One of the pro's at my camera store said that the Tokina 11-20mm is better than the Nikon 10-24 and cheaper too ( $600 vs $800 ? ) and only an overlap of the 18-20 as opposed to 18-24. I still have my 1980's Tokina 75-200 with my 80's Nikon EM 35mm. glad I can help if I did. :-)

I love my 200-500. I got in dec 2015 the bundle d3300 w/ 18-55 and 55-200. I completed the upper range with the Nikon 200-500. its worth it even though its more. its also one of Nikons newer lens cause I checked it out all year (2016) after getting my 2015 camera. never went on sale from Nikon or samys camera in l.a. ca. hope this helps. if your up to only 150 then maybe but if you have what I have there no overlapping ( 55-200/150-500 overlap from 150-200). if you don't care about that good luck in your choice. :-)
