I shot this robin sized bird today in my back yard.

Sorry, I have no idea. I am interested in that lens. How far away were you? What were the settings?

Any suggestions on reference manuals for the D7100? I won it in a raffle! My experience is that the manufacturers manuals are usually just too technical for me.

Check out Matt Granger, thatnikonguy.com and on youtube. He goes through all the settings in one video.

All of my works are provided for fee only and a very large variety are classified. Not going to happen.

Dude, I just got here, so I have no idea of your 'importance' here and don't care. But on that comment, I call bullsh*t. Huge, dripping, smelly piles of it. Get over yourself.

Do we settle for the second rate camera we have, or step into the future with the "best"? It takes a lot of will power to be a photographer. :D

:-P

OTOH, my favorite camera is still my Nikon FTN, bought used from a Vietnam War photographer when he got back. The body and the two lenses were beat up as heck, cosmetically, but everything worked. Meter still works today. Hmmm... I think I saw some film at my local Walgreen's...

If you're complete amateur, a pocket camera will suffice.

The only difference between an amateur and a professional is that a professional gets paid. With photography, there is no correlation between the quality of the work and the amount the photographer is paid, including nothing.

I might say, if you are just interested in snapshots, a pocket camera will do. And I wouldn't say that either, as I've seen some really good small factor cameras and some really crappy (D)SLRs.

You have a wonderful fairytale image.

I just signed up today, so I feel a tad obnoxious saying anything. But you asked, so I figured, what the hay. Just don't hate me before we even met.

Even if you could add snow, I don't think that would change things. The stand of trees on the right side are dark/dense. You've gotten good exposure in your shot with tough to capture lighting.

Try a different crop; maybe cutting out half of the trees on the right and half the snow on the bottom.
