It was not meant to be unfair, I would love to explore the US and take some stunning photos. But I know where those shots were taken and the physical effort to get to those places takes some doing. Cheers John

I think that your humour may be lost on our American friends, but that's not our problem!!!

I use Zoner photo studio free for viewing RAW, its a Polish company and beats most of the US ones. For manipulation you need to upgrade but its very cheap.
Hope this helps. John (UK)

Further to my first reply Trieste is worth a visit if only for the old tram! (www.tramdeopcina.it) For some good Roman stuff take a trip to Pula in Croatia its about 125km, about 1hour 30mins drive.
There are several Roman sites including the arena. Look up Pula in wikipedia, its on the Istrian peninsula and used to be in the former Yugoslavia.
Hope this helps John

Don't forget Venice itself, lots of photo ops there although you will never get "people free" pictures.
You can't take a car there though, the best way in is to take a train, the view of The Grand Canal will amaze you as you come out of the station. Then get on a No 1 vaporetto (water bus) and get off at St Marks Square, then follow the signposts for "statzione" a that will take past every well know parts of Venice.
Make sure you have a spare battery and lots of storage. Will let you more about the potential for the rest of you trip.
Cheers John

I have just joined, I have owned many digital cameras for at least 12 years. I currently have a Panasonic Lumix TZ10 which is an excellent compact camera with very good image quality. It also has GPS tagging which I consider a very useful add on to my photos.
I also have an Olympus E-PL1 with a 14-42mm m.zuiko kit lens, I also have a Lumix G Vario 14- 42mm lens which I am running side by side to see which come up with the best image quality.
Hope to hear from other members soon
