My opinion based on experience outside photography

Generally, most contracts are written by lawyers that go a little overboard to provide maximum benefit for their client. Usually you can negotiate reasonable changes with the client "before signing".

Regardless, I can't see $7,500 for one of those pictures.

I sent my Sigma lens back for repair a couple of years ago. I went overboard to package it securely, about a week later I got it back. In a large box with about 25 Styrofoam peanuts bent filter ring & never worked since. I will never buy another Sigma product ever.!!!! I hope you have better luck.

Just receiving it packed with styrofoam peanuts would p**s me off.

You should try it for portraits before dismissing it.

I suggest you go to the Canon site and download flash instruction manuals. That should answer a lot of questions. Or bring up specific questions people here could help you with.

Back in the before time I shot mostly black and white and had my own darkroom. Having recently switched to digital I am still conservative regarding the number of (landscape) photographs I take at a given location or on a given day. Naturally I take more pictures with digital but I can not imagine I would ever take 500 photographs on any given day.

Am I living in the past? Should I strive to somehow take hundreds of photos on any given day? Is this normal for digital photography?

I could forget about wrapping the tripod legs; it is not practical and will not protect the tripod anyway. Give the tripod a good wash with fresh water after used and you will be just fine. Some WD40 will help while in storage.

And this from Rodaz
I attach empty wide mouth plastic water bottles over the legs with duct tape. Alcohol removes the sticky when you're finished. I've been able to take some interesting surf photos with the self timer.

Proof that there is nothing WD40 and/or duct tape can't fix.

Here's a nice selection of abandoned building photos, this time in Italy:

That's what realtors call fixer uppers.

I was turned off after reading revues. I had expected it to be more mechanical.

I have just bought the most expensive speedlight that is currently on the market (Canon 600EX-RT). Am I going to make full use of its capabilities?

No.

But it is expandable, and I may make use of it in the future as I learn more about it.

Why did I buy it?

Because I wanted it and I can afford it.

I'm not a pro, so I don't have to justify it to an accountant.

If you want a bit of gear and you can afford it, then go for it.

I like your attitude, if you got it, flaunt it.

I am absolutely in the same boat as far as understanding the uses of speedlights is concerned. From the little I know it is best to use it off camera.

Good Luck

I see the Photo Gallery forum as a place where members post photos for all of us to look at. I enjoy viewing the photos and really like some of them and don't much care for some. Perhaps commenting on photos in the Photo "Gallery" forum is inappropriate unless the poster requests it, even then a moderator could move it to the Critique and Analysis forum.

Right now I use both.

When I lived in Northern Virginia there is (was) a terrific store. Can't remember the name. Now I'm in Casper Wyoming with one small store that I use as much as possible.

Most of the D800 shots suit the D800 better than the D4. I don't think the D4/D4s is unequivocally better than the D800, because of the resolution difference. I'm not sure if the same applies to the 1DX/5D Mark III pair.

I'll take a completely different approach to the question now. Recently someone posted the challenge to add up how much we spent on our gear. Now, stuff doesn't really matter, but experiences and memories do, so the real question is how much did we spend on the entire hobby (pros have a completely different calculation), including the photo trips, workshops, etc. But then it needs to be compared to our income over the same time, and the real question becomes, "Did we spend enough for an activity which gives us great pleasure?" Yes, that is how good I can be at rationalizing. :-D
Most of the D800 shots suit the D800 better than t... (show quote)

The main thing is to try and keep the percentage of total income spent on camera gear below 100%

Hi ArticPug

I have GIMP 2.8 on Win 7 and I can't get it to accept raw files at all. Am I missing something?
