Another very quick way to fix in PS is to select a square or circle around the area you want to lighten or darken, make sure it's larger than the face, copy and paste to a new layer, then you can adjust exposure or brightness, whichever works best for you, then using the eraser tool set to a very soft brush and 50% opacity, feather out the edges of your layer #2, flatten and you're finished.
Sometimes I find that the effects of the dodge tool washes out the color, making it grey-ish.

I do this a lot in Photoshop; duplicate the layer, desaturate it then remove the black & white over the part to show color. I've never used masks though. I just use the erasor tool. What is the advantage to using masks?

I think we're a little off track here. I wasn't the person asking the question. I just replied to it that I have done my kids weddings and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Well, sure. You're retired and I can understand you've probably had enough of photography and would prefer to sit back and enjoy. But I am a "decent pro" and enjoy my job. And I love to do things for my kids. Also, I know the family and know the kind of photography they like and the kind they don't. A stranger, no matter how talented wouldn't have that edge.

I think it really depends on a lot of factors, how well the photographer works with family is one thing, if he/she has a good rapport and can work without getting stressed, then go for it. How much money the bride & groom have to spend is another and very big consideration. I recently photographed a wedding for a friend of my daughter. The bride wanted pictures of everything, from the rehearsal to the honeymoon. Their budget was such that if I hadn't done the wedding for next to nothing, they wouldn't have had pictures at all.

On the other hand, if the photographer is going to feel a lot of pressure then sure, they won't be able to both photograph the wedding as well as enjoy it. I think each person should make up their own mind, but a lot of great suggestions have been made here that are very valuable in making this decision.

I've done all my kids weddings. What a PLEASURE! Just keep the same mindset that you have with other people and you will do just fine. And you will have a gazillion pictures to remember the wedding!
