How many do you have and what would you want for buying in some quantity? Thanks!

I could use some expert advise from Canon users; I am set to buy my first L lens, 70-200mm 2.8 IS zoom, used but in pristine condition. He listed it as first generation. I searched UHH for info on this subject/question, but couldn't find a topic that addressed this. Should I be concerned about first generation vs second or third generation if the specs are the same? Thanks for the quick response, as I'm buying it tomorrow morning at 11am. I'm excited to get this lens....I think:-} 8-)

This is not really a risk as this lens is one of the all time greatest - assuming it is working as it should. It is still what pros shoot at major sporting events as well as one of the choices for portrait and wedding photogs. You will love it!

I currently have and use Photoshop CS5 and it Camera RAW. As I know many of you are aware this is a powerful software but also has a major learning curve. I have heard that many amature photographers as myself use other less intensive programs and seem to be happy with them. I am seeking feedback on just what program others use, its benifits over Photoshop such as ease of use. I do use and like the CS5 Camera Raw using it much more than anything in Photoshop itself but also know little about any other RAW converter. Any feedback will be appreciated.

I would be curious to know how the 40mm works for video as that is to be one of it's strengths! What camera body do you shoot?

Do you still have the lens available and I'm assuming it is the IS version? Thanks, novots.

No brainer from where I sit - 7D. For sure if comparing against the Mark ii. Mark ii is not for sports, slow focus, slow frame rate etc... When you bring the Mark iii into the equation that is different. I'm currently just starting to shoot basketball with the iii so the jury is still out on this. My initial impressions is that it will be at least as good as the 7D with slightly lower frame rate, 8 fps vs 6. I've shot hundreds of games and thousands of shots with a 7D and with the firmware upgrade it is an even greater camera. Good luck.

High School gyms are notorious for rather poor lighting. You will always be fighting it unless you have faster glass. A perfect lens is a 70-200mm 2.8. Gives you a good range and pretty good speed so you can set your ISO to anywhere from 1600 to 4 or 5,000 giving you anywhere between 400 to 1000 shutter speed. This is important to not only freeze action but also eliminate camera shake blur. This depends a little bit on your camera and its ability to shoot fairly low noise shots at those types of ISO's. Freezing the action and having decent exposure is far more important than the noise in my opinion. Another lens option, less costly, would be a 85mm 1.8 lens. Need to be a bit closer to the action and won't have as much reach but you can get great shots under the basket with that type lens. Hope this helps, good luck. Never met a parent or athlete that doesn't like seeing action shots.

I also love this image. When I first saw it, it seemed to say - "Here I am, nothing more, nothing less, love me or hate me." I think it is fantastic!

I've used it for years and find that it is an excellent editing and file management software. It is pretty sophisticated and with a few of the better plug-ins, is likely all a person needs. I would rate it a 8 out of 10 as far as meeting the needs of most photographers.

Basketball, court side with the 85, iso at about 3200 for most high school gyms. You're going to love it. The 7d is a fantastic camera for sports!

Waterbug49307 - loved your stroll down memory lane, feels a little bit like I was there with you, though grew up more than a thousand miles away. Thanks!
