Welcome to the hog.

Thanks. Love your cow. I've been looking for some back lit cows to photo. There are plenty around - Holsteins and Angus - but it's hard to take pics from the middle of busy roads.

Welcome, I hope you enjoy the site.

I've been enjoying the site since December and feel like I know everyone already, but didn't introduce myself until now. Guess I'm as shy on line as in person.

Welcome to the forum. To understand exposure - read up on it and take a gazillion pictures while you vary different settings and see how they affect the pictures. Easy as pie :) (kidding of course - it's a lot of work!)

I definitely need to read more, especially the manual. I've taken a gazillion pictures - in auto Ugh! Need to experiment with other settings.

Welcome to the UHH...best place around to get better at photography.

Thanks. I've learned a lot already. We'll see whether I actually get better. Lots of learning curves ahead.

Welcome. Looking forward to your postings. What exactly is "Fine Art?" and is there "Unfine Art?"

I've been visiting the gallery, observing the dialog, picking up all kinds of useful information since the first of Dec. I must thank all of you for sharing your knowledge and humor - I enjoy reading your posts.

My background is in fine art, using photography as a tool for to gather references. I don't know whether I will ever progress much beyond being a relative neophyte, but would like to improve my skills. I'm trying to make sense of the manual for my Pentax K- 7 and eagerly await the delivery of "Understanding Exposure."

As I learn to use this site, I'll take a stab at posting photos.

Good question. My understanding is that fine art refers to painting, drawing, print making, ceramics, etc. to distinguish it from creative arts like music and theatre. I'm the painter of that description and at times can be pretty "unfine." LOL

Just an FYI, Delkin Devices has a great support center that can recover the majority of "lost" images...they also make some of the most reliable memory cards and readers in the industry.

If I continue to have problems after reformatting, I'll give them a try as well as look for their products. Thanks, Vicki

I've been having trouble with an 8gb Adata SDHC card that recently failed to capture several shots. Those shots that were captured, wouldn't download onto the computer, and I got a bunch of different error messages. I replaced the card with a 4gb according to some recommendations some of you made the other day. It's working fine. My question: is it possible to get the 8gb back to operating well through reformatting? I'm a little afraid to try using this card for fear it might damage the camera. In the past, I only erased the card (in the camera) after downloading - never reformatted. Any suggestions would be most appreciated. Thanks.

"failed to capture several shots"

Not knowing the camera your using it's rather difficult to say what the problem is.

Question
Is the card a class 4. A class 4 is good for a P&S, but not for most DLSRs. If it is then the card isn't capable of writing information fast enough. I would suggest either a class 6 or 10 for most DSLRs.

If by class 4 you mean GB, then no, it's an 8GB. The card is labled "SD HC" and the seller assured me it was fast enough for my camera, a Pentax K-7. I have now tried reformatting in the camera and will experiment with it today to see whether that helped. Thanks so much for your input. - Vicki

Vicki,
You can try to download from the camera, does the image show in the camera? If so it should be able to be downloaded, then once you get that done, reformat in the camera, this may realign the card.

I have now reformatted in the camera, but haven't tried using it to see whether it works. Keep your fingers crossed and thanks for the advice. - Vicki

This makes sense. I plan to invest in more of the 4gb cards. Thanks.

I was told the card was fast enough for the camera. As I recall, I paid quite a bit for it and assumed it would be fine for handling speed and many pics. Thanks.
