Hi all,

I've enjoyed helping on here, and from time to time, I've enjoyed asking for help, and receiving excellent help too.

I've just be the fortunate one to receive a new Sigma 8mm lens, or 'fish eye'. While the images are really unusual, I've put each into my Affinity Photo, and cropped the center area with a 16x9 rectangle. I'm enjoying the results, but I think I'm still on my 'learning curve' with this lens.

Do any of you all have/use an 8mm lens? And if so, any secrets or suggestions you'd like to share? Thanks.

Bill

Jerry and Paul have offered you some excellent suggestions. They always do.

As a 15+ year experienced Photoshop user, I'm here to suggest you give Affinity Photo a close look. An unfortunate glitch has prevented me from printing when using PSCS5, so that is when I switched to Affinity Photo and haven't looked back. I've been able to transfer so much of my knowledge from Photo Shop over to Affinity Photo, and enjoy seeing new tools that I find amazing. And to top it off, it's very easy for someone new to either (PS or AP) get off to a quick start.

As Paul says, test drive the trial period. And for $50, the purchase is all you pay. To top that off, upgrades are free.

Excellent images Frank. And you didn't need to go to our Botanical Garden for them. Well done.

A pleasure and goal of all of us is the 'capture' an image, and 'in that moment'.

I love HDR because it can capture an image that is closer to what our eye can resolve. It may not be perfect, and it isn't. But it is a step closer to what we can really see.

The ND filters also give us a chance to capture something that is difficult to see, otherwise. When I bought my first set, I went all over our city, looking for water falls and water fountains. The result was so pleasing. Use ND filters permits us to treat our eyes to something that we could not otherwise see.

Ed, I want to point out something that seems glossed over. I've been a Photoshop fan since 2003. But it did not cost me $79, as suggested here. It cost me $660 for the first copy. Then every three years (the maximum time you can go and still ""purchase an upgrade""), I had to spend $250+, and that continued all the way until about 2015, when PSCS5 was the last one ""purchased"". So there you have it, more than $1,400 spent on Photoshop. Now, with PSCS5 on my two year old iMac, I can """use""" it, but the program instantly shuts down when I try to print anything. So it is of no use to me. Not any more. I fully understand Adobe to stop "selling PS". For years, I was angered to hear customers in stores like MicroCenter, brag about how they had Photoshop on their computerS, and yet paid nothing. So, renting it out, as Adobe does now, makes business sense, and I support them.

This all said, I purchased Affinity Photo for $49, use it full time, and I'm not looking back. So for anyone looking for an alternate software to purchase, I support Affinity Photo 110%.

As you know, I've grown up in the Chicago suburban area. The only wise way to travel to the downtown area of Chicago is by train, so I have a permanent image of that station's interior and exterior. You have captured it excellently. And thank you for sharing those images with everyone here.

Thank you Bob. Now that my teaching semester is over, I'll be able to be on far more often, and to submit some of my new micro refracted light images.

I just ordered the Sigma 8mm EX DG, which was less than half the Canon L series Fish Eye. I would have like to have obtained the Canon, then all of my lenses would be Canon L series. But for the price, I think I will be fine with the Sigma. I already have many subjects around our city where I plan to use it, so I think there will be a good future for it.

Thanks all for all of your thoughts.
