Light is the key.

Not just the quantity or quality of light... but it's PLACEMENT in the image.

One thing you'll find in common in ALL of them is "INCREDIBLE LIGHT."

A common misconception :-)

Photography is not about light, it is about seeing.

there are three elements to a WOW image:

1: content ~ what is the subject
2: intent ~ what is the Photographer thinking
3: style ~ how is it presented

Although striving for perfection is always a valid objective, it's the striving for that goal that is rewarding.

Strive for perfection, accept excellence.

Shoot raw, save as tiff, set resolution to native res of printer without resample, then use OnOne's Perfect Resize to set Print size.

Perfect Resize coverts the image to vectors does the resize and then rastorizes. If its not avalible resize in PS incrementally.

the dirt roads around Hells Canyon are pretty rugged, especially on the ID side so you will want good wheels. Vantage, (where I90 crosses the Columbia River)is a real nice spot. If you have the time consider the John Day Fossil Beds, Smith Rock, and the Painted Hills(recommended) in central OR

Doyle <Vancouver WA The Northwest is rich in the landscape, your gonna have a great time.

"I'm sure the liquid used is exotic to prevent it from freezing in space"

your interested in space technology here is another (unrelated) tidbit

one of the few remaining uses for whale oil is in space as a lubricant because it retains its viscosity at very low temps

license plate image via satellite

what they have been doing since the 1960's to sharpen satellite images is called "loop resampling". The data is repeatedly overlaid on itself. because the noise is random it tends to cancel itself while the non-random data builds. Multiple images are required such as from video.

Since the 1990's satellites have used liquid filled lenses where by the gaps between elements are filled with a refracting liquid effectively creating an additional element rather than having a gap filled with a gas. While the technology has yet to make its way to Photography it is being used in Lithography to make microchips. Depth of field is sacrificed in favor of sharpness.

Doyle Thomas is a Photo Artist whos work is represented in private collections in the USA and abroad. Dispite his thirty-five years plus experience he remains committed to learning the Photographic Process.

After technical proficiency has been achieved, the next step involves an understanding of the reasons to make Photographs and the though process that leads there. Pictures are taken with the camera but Photographs are made with the Mind.

This site is devoted then, not to the development of film, but rather, the development of the Mind.
