Thanks for sharing. It was fantastic to hear Tico Tico again. It was one of my Dad's favorites from the '40s. We had it on an old 78 record.

Where does this law leave the dash cams in police cars and private automobiles? What about all the security cameras that are mounted on light poles, ally ways, stores, etc? What about the TV media and newspaper photographers? What about back-up cameras in the newer automobiles? Does this mean that National Geographic can only shoot in countries outside of the U.S.? Yes, these questions sound about as silly as the law they want to pass! I guess I'll by-pass Arkansas when I take my next vacation.

I read the article because I was wondering if they were going to profile GIMP, but it didn't. I know absolutely zero about fiddling around with a photo editing program and had heard that GIMP was pretty fair for a free program. Have any of you had experience with GIMP? And where would you go to understand what everything means in the program. I've looked at GIMP and have drawn a total blank on where to even begin. Totally clueless.

PBS had a special from England on cats, and my cat sat through the whole hour watching and listening to the cats on TV. Normally, he could care less about TV, but if an animal or birds are on TV, it has his attention.

Apparently this was one of the airlines that does not require that a flight attendant remain in the cockpit if either the pilot or co-pilot has to leave the cockpit, just so this won't happen. Apparently the co-pilot overrode the code that it takes to get back into the cockpit. Hard to believe that anyone who was going to do what he did could do it and remain so totally calm.

Loved the colors and composition of the red barn on the peninsular, and your lone tree was beautiful. Thank you for sharing.

I've used Word Web for years and you can get the free version at this hyperlink: http://www.mypcapp.com/wordweb/indexarc.htm
Great speller/thesaurus or if you only want to check the spelling of a word and you have Microsoft Word you can highlight the word you are having trouble with, right click your mouse and a window will pop up with the correct spelling.

Beautiful church and just the perfect angle for the ceiling. I watched a special last night on Rosslyn Chapel in the Lothians of Scotland, and marveled at the intricate details of the stonemasons and carvers. Old Churches are a history of the artists of their times. Ironically, the book The Da Vinci code written by an American author, literally saved Rosslyn Chapel from going to ruin as the chapel was a key element of the novel. Tourists by the millions have been going to see Rosslyn Chapel since the book and movie came out, and with the money they've been able to restore it. The Powers that Be move in strange ways.

You will note that the big push is among suburban parents who came of age in the late 80s and 90s and went to school at colleges where their instructors came of age and were socialized rather than educated in the late 60s and 70s by professors who were influenced by the writings of Max Weber, W Frederick Taylor and the other "Progressives."

Weber was an apologist for Bismarck and an advocate of the intrusive State and Taylor was the father of micromanagement. The idea of youth unsupervised is anathema. In the early 18th Century, Bostonians complained about the apprentices (ages 12-16) idling about and reading cast aside publications--in the 19th the Massachusetts Legislature would herd them into Prussian inspired schools but in the 18th they would listen to the discussions of the day and read the cast aside papers with essays, wander down to the court to hear James Otis. I suppose some of them grew up to engage in anti government activities--dangerous.

The problem with controlling the youth is that you can only go so far and you can never predict the consequences.

How right you are. They are trying to make everyone into some neuter gender, and the ones who think outside the box are pretty quickly disabused of that idea. Boys are not encouraged to be men in the sense that 'we' grew up with, and women are taught to be King Kong in bloomers. The pendulum for both sexes has swung too far in the opposite direction. Granted, it did need some adjustment, but not to the extent that we are living with today.

I feel very badly for the kids today. They do not know what 'freedom' really is. In the summer our mothers would make us PBJ sandwiches to take for lunch, and we'd be off to the woods or the pond and be back for supper. We climbed trees, played games, built log forts, fished, skated, went coasting, and on rainy days we usually went to each other's houses to play board games. AND, we were all slim. Very few kids that I went to school with had weight issues. At 10:00AM recess and after lunch recess we ran around the school yard and field, played on the monkey bars, swings or the jungle gym, played dodge ball, hopscotch or Red Rover, and didn't need Ritalin because we got the kinks out on a regular basis. Kids today aren't allowed to do most of those activities that kept us slim and healthy. The schools are afraid of being sued if a kids gets his/her knee skinned from falling down playing a game in the school yard. Somewhere along the way this country has lost her way. We have unhappy children because they haven't been allowed to be children. They are attached to their computers and iphones and do little that is healthy. Our schools end up being after school babysitters until the parent(s) get through work and a goodly number of kids subsist on junk food, take-out and high powered energy drinks. Sad, just sad.

Microsoft will also be discontinuing Internet Explorer, so if you are using that as your browser presently, find another one like Firefox, Chrome, Opera, etc. Apparently IE just has too many bugs and Microsoft is working on another browser without the inherent issues of IE.
