The second picture works very well. The background is not distracting and color is vibrant in the butterfly.
This picture is untouched, it is direct from the camera. Yes, it is about 3:45 pm, I did not think ahead and set white balance to cloudy and maybe used ND 4 instead of ND 2. I am litte disappointed about the ears being chopped off, but it was that or the lower jaw. Not much time when to consider a lot about framing when she is moving. Thank you for your comments, they will help get all my thoughts together next time.
One more thought for consideration, consider giving carefull attention to the vignetting that shows on the corners of the picture. You may need to zoom a little more to eliminate that almost always ugly vignetting.
Nice framing of the bridge with the trees on either side. The slight blurriness at the other end of the bridge leads the viewer to wonder what mystery might be found if they crossed. Good story picture.
Good composition, but you may want to work on eliminating shadows. Do you use a CP filter? Did you use a macro lens? You good elimination of unwanted background. I just posted a picture asking for comments under "pictures" fo look and comment. Take care.
I was getting stir crazy that I not been able to get any where to get pictures for a while, so I noticed my dog laying in the sun and thought maybe that could be some pictures. Here is one.
Sony A500; 100 mm Macro lens; f2.8; Exposure 1/6; ISO 200
High Desert Museum? Lava flows? Caves? Wildlife? Rivers? Fish? You have many wonderful things to photograph in central Oregon. I dont get to spend as much time as I as once did. Have fun.
The Henry Doorly Zoo is a great place to experience a vast number of different environments for pictures. These will require adjustments for lighting, shooting through glass, as well as outdoor adjustments for sun and shadows. I have only been to that zoo once, but it is a great zoo. Enjoy, take lots of pictures, learn from what works and what did not work.
It might be wise to set WB to "flash" if you will be always using flash indoors for these pictures.
Thank you for the comments.
I use sony. I have the 500 that bought last year. Sony has since released some amazing stuff and lastest greatest is the 580. You cant go wrong with any of those choices, I might suggest to look harder at the 580. Take care.
What is the white balance set on? Check WB first. After that you may want a UV filter, a CP filter, some ND filters?
Action shots can be tought. Try using shutter speed priority, set shutter speed for fast (i.e. 1/1000), and shot actions shots. If that still blurrs, then go to faster shutter speed. However, some bokeh (blurr) can be a good thing to show movement in still picture.
If all this fails, then you try manual and set a fast shutter speed, open aperture (low f), and ISO 400-800 or auto.
I take pictures as a hobby for my enjoyment. I like to be creative and see what my camera can do.
What is the reason for the high ISO? Why can't you keep the ISO at 400 or less? This avoids the problem of noise. Some manufactures have noise reduction systems built into the camera (i.e. Sony) and it works good, but you get ISO too high and it can do only so much. Noise will be there at high ISO, you have learn when and how you want to incorporate "noise" into your pictures, if you do. Just manufactures make cameras that have ISO's of 16000 or 32000 does not mean that you have to use that setting.
