I have that camera, and a couple of lenses. Loved it back in film days. Processed my own B&W, shot color negatives as well.

I have the pop-up waist level view finder, and also an eye level pentaprisim. They both focus quite well. What problems do you have?

...maybe it's how I'm looking at it...my eyes are good...can't seem to "feel" the focus...technique is what I'm after, how do you approach it...position of your head etc...

...I know this is kinda obscure, but this group has the chops to get it answered! A friend gifted me with a Zenza Bronica medium format kit recently (I thanked him vociferously for the black hole he had dropped me into, and, of course, the great gear I now need to learn to operate...heh). So, my background in film goes back to a Brownie to college courses in journalism studies, so I can get around. So after wearing out YouTube I finally fired it up. Other than the *slow* factor (which I am grateful for...I'm very used to a D4) and after putting the roll into a shop to be processed (yes, I've bought my tank and will soon be doing that myself) I was relatively happy with the results...exposures were fine (and the realization that I have to have a log now 'cuz there's no exif data...haha) BUT focus is a problem. Now, I'm looking down into the viewfinder, and then, to get that fine focus there's a magnifier that flips up, which I used. Any suggestions on technique for gaining fine focus? BTW this kit also comes with a bellows...wow I'm in deep... ;0)
(Note: f5.6 to f8 I'm not sure on this shot...yes, a log...)

What are your settings? Is your camera in manual? I dont shoot a lot of wrestling, in my area I may shoot one tournament a season for the paper. Im ususally right at the mat with a strobe shooting to the roof with a nikon 24-70 2.8 on my D4 body. Since youre in such a rush and flash or strobe isnt feasible, Id suggest you just go to borrowlenses.com and rent the nikon lens you'd like. Heck maybe two, since its an important meet. You'll need to increase your ISO, like 1250 to as much as 6400 depending on the D7000's capabilities. Shutter speed 1/500-1/640, and 2.8 or on stop higher for better\easier focus. Now saying all this, you'll have to chimp until you get something that looks good to you. I hope this helps and Good Luck. Here is a link to my WEB page I have for the kids to download to thier phones.

...all good advice. I shoot alot of indoor/gym pageantry events and they (and therefor *you*) require a fast shutter (you could prolly get away with a 320th, which I used before acquiring better equipment)...your 7000 is a good body and you should be able to push the ISO (I find noise reduction in LR reallyreally good). The 80-200 will work wonderfully (I owned one)...and the Tamron 70-200 sounds like a great deal, too. One caveat here, leave VR off! I burned-up the vr motor in my 70-200 VII shooting fast-moving subjects...needed to learn *when* VR is appropriate (lucky Nikon had mercy and fixed it for me). Another thing which may affect your shoot is white balance and what happens if you encounter lights that cycle at 60 hz...if you run into that condition you're gonna have to make your adjustments in post (I will make a couple of presets in LR and deal with it that way), even in auto, WB will fluctuate 'cuz the camera simply can't compensate fast enough when *you* are shooting fast. Good luck!

Of what you mentioned, I'll address the D700, as I have used one for the last 6 years. It's simple FX, 25,600 ISO, 51 focus points, what more do you need?

I miss mine...sold it and regret it...however, the 750 looks pretty dang good! (...as I go out the door with my D4 and D800.) Tools are important. Learning on a good tool is not a bad thing.

I've had it almost a year and just did a super fine tune in camera on my D810. I didn't realize it was as sharp as it is. I'm amazed . I also have a af-s 300f4 d. It's sharp too. And this zoom at certain focal lengths is as sharp or sharper. My motor is going out though. I've decided I'm getting it fixed soon. Was thinking of replacing it but changed my mind.

I bit the bullet and upgraded to the VII...also sharpsharp and great. But, geeeeewiz, eXpensive!

It is a really nice lens, as such.

But, Nikon has been unable to repair the 80-200mm f/2.8 AF-S lens for quite a few years, and Nikon's stated reason is a lack of spare parts.

Do a google search on 'failure "80-200mm f/2.8"' and you will find several articles and forum discussions.

...surely. After-market? I'm sure, just as craftsmen work on other older non-supported photographic equipment, there are those to help out with things like this. Too lazy to google...I trust you. ;0)

Unfortunately there is a great risk in owning that particular lens. the AF-S internal motor has a high failure rate, and all of the spare parts for it have been used up and are no longer available.

...well, I owned mine for 10 years with great success...and the person who owns it now loves it (total of 15 years). Anecdotal, yes...where do you get your "...high failure rate" information? Hopefully not personally...if you have documentation/attribution, I'm sure it would be appreciated by this journalism major and the most recent purchaser...

I bought a used Nikon AF-S 80-200 D f/2.8 from Roberts Camera in Indiana. It came with a great warranty. I think about 120 days. Referbs are 90 days. Check out Roberts for Used Photo.

Every model.. Every manufacturer.. all of them bottom out. I use them during the Sweet Spot used price, but am cautious on used price vs new. I tend toward very new merchandise. I tend toward used high end.

Nobody buys for the same reasons you do!!!

Respectfully, I do. I'm a "tool guy" from the word go. I have a definite need for the speediest Nikon out there, however dollars have a way of affecting the way I procure my equipment. It took a year from roll-out for me to acquire my D4...improvements in the 4s weren't enough of a difference, but the newest D5 *will* be in my kit as soon as I can swing it. Might not be upon roll-out but by wintertime I'll have one. I shoot marching band shows where you're there from 8am to 10pm and performance art in many dark venues...I have a need and life's too short! ;0)

Unfortunately, headlines are often written to sell newspapers rather than to summarize the true story. When she thought that her doctorate might not happen, my wife took a journalism course as a way of investigating optional career paths. When the class covered an hour talk about opiates, the professional article for the newspaper focused on the two minutes he talked about Sherlock Holmes, and Sherlock was what the headline shouted about.

She decided that she is a scientist at heart, finished her chemistry PhD, and has had a satisfying career in academe for the past 35 years.

...good for her! I did the whole deal as a journalism major, and then decided I didn't want to be a 300 pound sportswriter! While immersed in the major, however, I became fascinated with "head writing"...prolly a bit perverse, I know. Hard to get a true reading of *any* topic with one point of view, much less one course...IMO, of course!

This one I caught in the SGV Tribune the other day and called the Editorial Room and asked who wrote this.

It took two or three readings before the editor realized that what he was reading was impossible!!! They put in a correction the next day.

I just couldn't help but send this along. Too funny.

Hello,

there are always rumors of upcoming new models.

If you always wait for the newest model and update, you will never
own one -:)

The D750 was indroduced 1 year ago. And I am pretty sure they will not discontinue it after this time.
It's also hard to believe that after this short time an update will come.

Only Nikon knows what is and will be their strategy.

And even an update comes, the present D750 will be not become
suddenly more worse.

My two cents worth.....

...agree. I sold my D700 to a photog friend (I have a D4 and a D800 and figured I'd put the extra $ into a lens, which I did...) but since then I've regretted the sale! Been recommending to DX friends to look for a used D700! Loved that body...*still* love that body!
