This an image I took from our porch.
Hand held with Canon M6 with 300mm Canon lens.

There’s too much light here. You’re blowing out the contrasts. Either shoot at smaller aperture or faster shutter speed or lower ISO. Hold two of them constant and vary only one variable. Usually f/8 or f/11 will provide most lenses’ sharpest images. If you intentionally under expose and then adjust in post processing, you’ll find your sweet point. Have fun.

Thanx for the donkey pic. I saved it for my (infamous) "illustrated replies" collection.

Looks like this moon got spattered with a lemon meringue pie. How did you create the image?

I like it as it is for a monochrome floral abstract, or silhouette.

Thank you Hobbyist. I appreciate your vision.

Try underexposing the image. The moon is very bright. You should be able to go as slow as 1/125 second and ISO 100. Aperture of f11 is a good place to start. F8 may be as low as you can select as I have the same camera and lens. Image from 9/1/23 attached.

I concur. One of my moon shots is on this thread. I used the Nikon D850 and the 28-300mm zoom at max zoom. (If I'd had my Tamron G2 150-600, I'd have gotten even greater lunar-surface detail. I always go for deep under exposure which helps hugely in defining the darker and lighter sections of the lunar surface. I make ample use of the sliders controlling brightness, contrast the blacks and the whites. I also crop out the blackness, leaving just a small amount of black space surrounding the moon itself. I'll shoot at f/8 at the lowest ISO available and at as-short-as-possible shutter speeds.

These shots' details are amazing! Please tell us the camera, lens, and post processing you used for this series. I don't think I've ever seen so much crater detail in moon shots. Your optics are really outstanding.

Interested in your thoughts regarding any aspect of this composition. Does it work as a work of art? I can totally white out the gray background. Taken with a Nikon D850 with a Tamron G2 150-600mm zoom at full 600mm. ISO 2500, 1/1000 of a second at f/29. white balance 4870K, pict ctrl Vivid. sharpening 4; clarity +1. Full frame.
Thanks in advance for any helpful words.

Also took shots of a pair of deer nearby. Will post later on.

My question to you guys and gals is, has anyone with this lens had any issues with barrel distortion or soft edges? Also, could someone comment on the Nikkor 24-120mm f/4 as a possible walk-around lens. The extra reach of the 28-300mm would be nice but I'd rather not have issues that could not be resolved in post processing.

I recently purchased that lens from a hogger. The lens correction routine in Lightroom clears up any barrel distortion. I was told that at 300mm there would be a slight fall-off at the edges. I think that sort of thing happens with many zoom lenses at their maximum settings. I also have the Tamron G2 150-600mm and that, too, suffers similarly, but post processing has usually resolved that issue similarly. I just shot the moon with the 28-300 at 300mm. I attach it here below for your examination.

Photographed with a Nikon D850 and a Nikkor 28-300mm zoom at 300mm, at ISO 200, f/5.6 1/200th of a second. Processed in Lightroom Classic and Photoshop all to bring out the contrasts between the darker basaltic sections and the lighter feldspar areas on the lunar surface.

If you have a good scanner that you are finished with, specifically, an Epson Perfection V600 Color Photo, Image, Film, Negative & Document Scanner or one of similar quality, please let me know. Thank you.

Check out the Lumix ZS95 (TZ80) - 720 max zoom, small sensor, the Sony HX99 -same, slightly shorter max zoom, or the Lumix ZS 100 - 1 inch sensor, zoom to 250 or the ZS 200 - 1 inch sensor and about 350mm zoom. Of course there is the Olympus Stylus 1s (used) - 1-1/12 sensor, zoom to 300mm, f2.8 all the way, or the Sony RX100 vi or vii - 1 inch sensor, zoom to 200mm

Thank you.
I recently discovered the camera about which I had read and this is what I had been looking for:
PANASONIC LUMIX ZS80 20.3MP Digital Camera, 30x 24-720mm Travel Zoom Lens, 4K Video, Optical Image Stabilizer and 3.0-inch Display – Point & Shoot Camera with Lecia Lens - DC-ZS80K (Black)

It costs around $420. I mght get it and try it out just for the focal length range and the sharpness of its lens. My brother-in-law has posted many incredible shots of hawks devouring their prey in the middle of Stuyvesant Town in New York City. Each one looks like he'd been almost on top of the action when the shots were actually taken a considerable distance from the action.

I've been photographing with a variety of cameras, currently exclusively with Nikon, for over sixty years. I'm interested only in the one model about which I've heard so much, yet not enough. My current go-to camera is the D850. (I also own the D7100, D500 and D5). The lens I'm using is the nikkor 28-300mm that I recently acquired from a fellow Hogger.

All my various cameras and lens combinations are rather heavy. I'm looking for a very lightweight camera that would fit in my pocket yet offer me a huge range of zoom lengths for an upcoming trip on which I'm determined to travel as light as possible. The Lumix model I heard about fits that description.

I'm interested in any solid information about the Lumix camera model with the 700mm focal length spread. I'm interested in knowing the model name, whether it shoots in both RAW and JPG, its ISO range, your level of satisfaction with the images, whether you can adjust the exposure settings yourself, and the current price of the model. Thank you in advance for your help.

Back from Alaska but have another 20,000 photos to go through. I'm still trying to delete before even beginning to process. I have not finished Yellowstone yet!

Enjoy a few more Yellowstone for now.

What a great set! Among my favorites, I Loved the bird on a bison. Terrific work.
