Henry A Very fine shot, About the only thing i would say Two small thoughts cross my mind, Just a small bit of darkening of the forest region to further isolate the lovely regions and an over all sharpening to add a bit to great textures that are there. see if you like this. Like all adjustments if you can taste what you do you have used too much. RBORU

Henry The image is one certinly worth working with. If I should have anny comment would be you migh darken the forest area just a bit to strentthen the other areas of the imge. try iit a bit and see it uou like it. R Borud. Also you also might consider adding a bit with thih the aharpening control which could add a tougceh to the lovely textures you have. Thanks for asking RBoruD

Thanks very much, Russ. I have been using FastStone Image Viewer to preview my photos and tag them for which I want to edit. I guess I need to go look at all the rest of the features!

Linda I also find the levels and curves sections very easy and good to use. RBorud

Hi All another in a different way I have been looking at some images. This big cat is at out local zoo and is in a somewhat unusual cage. It is in a quite heavy steel cable mesh tent on two poles with what can only be described as a counter around it. One visit I had the camera all set and then set a windup mouse on the counter and had it running back and forth with me shooting with frothing mouth and the cat with frighting concentration. I can only say I was pleased. Moral of story is buy a mouse for your pocket. Thanks for looking and please enjoy. RBorud

In PS Elements is an "Adjust Sharpness" window with sliders I never tried 'til a few days ago. In the past I either used the sharpen tool selectively in small areas, or went with my preferred softer, glowing, texturized artsy look

Below are my best attempts at sharpening two telephoto shots from today, with Olympus EM10 M4/3 camera and 75-300 mm lens. On #1 I also used Nik Tonal Contrast. On #2 I masked the sky from the sharpening. They both also have a little sharpening from ACR raw editor defaults.

Please edit the raw files (linked below each jpg), doing your favorite sharpening techniques and repost here with information on how you accomplished. I'd like to learn a bit more about this aspect of editing.

Many thanks!

Thanks Linda for reminding me to show what I do, in my sharpening images. RBorud
First of all having tried so many techniques over the years and moving from brand to brand I realized I was being lead with out thinking of my needs. I decided to stop the endless updating and fix on just a few things and learn them to a level really useful. So I know some of you will be quite appalled at how I work. First of all I have only three programs I use for all my work. #1 (hold your breath) FastStone viewer. I do the bulk of my sharpening there. It is a free program for non comercial use. It is also one of the few that I know that uses Lanscom math in its sharpening section. I am sure there may be others but I do not know them. It has two sharpening sections, one very simple and the second more complex. I go between depending on what I am doing. The second section has a control of the radius of the sharpening control and can have very subtle changes, but one has to learn them. Also the engine that resizes is very good in FastStone and I have made quite large size changes to good effect. #2 I use a very much older version of Corel Paint Shop Pro. I feel I am still learning intricacies of it, even if it is three years old. I does all the layering and standard stuff in PSP files I feel well and stably. #3 a very old copy of Photoshop Number 7 (that is old) I use for some ancient plugins I at times find useful. So in answer, this is what I use. I will not argue with anyone about my use as I have felt intricate understanding trumps constant updating most times. Thanks for listening. RBorud

Linda Thanks for posing this question, it is one I rarely talk about because of the diametric opposite thoughts of the subject. I find nearly all have a different attitude of the perception of sharpness. Personally sharpness tends to be somewhat lower on my list than the the totality and impact of the image. So here is my little nood to sharpness and your image. I tend to work less predictably than most so I will show before I tell. Now I will go suck my thumb in the woodshed.......... RBorud

Hi All Well here we go again, and I will stop for awhile and try not to bore all of you, even though I am fascinated by this process. They take about 2+ hours of joy and I am up to twenty. I had to show this one as I found it quite satisfying. Thanks for looking and please enjoy. RBorud

This is a great use of a multi-paneled image. Your final product is gorgeous. (I just wish that when you were creating your new word, akin to "triptych" and "diptych," you'd used the spelling "pentych" so it fit better with its precedents. Of course, then you'd have the question of whether to spell it with two t's or one.)

Thank you rdgreenwood your thoughts are very meaningful to me, and I am so glad you liked it. As to spelling, it is one of the great dilemmas of the world, but I am taking your advisement under consideration and possible use. RBorud
