I picked up a Nikon Refurbished P510 over 4 years ago and you could not tell it was not new when I got it, both camera and packaging. Since then it has been working great, no issues. That was my first experience with refurbished and I would do it again.

Thats awesome. Very lucky find for you. Thanks

Ok, so refurbished is .....fixed....? I if I take my very gently loved camera and sell it to a camera store, the will fix it it, even though nothing is broken or wrong with it, so they can label it refurbished and resell it? That seems silly to me ..... I have bought from both b&h photo, and cameta all the items were bought new. So they were great.....
It's really not about budget. I have Been saving for the gear I want.... I was just wondering would it be worth it to save a couple dollars and essentially buy more gear.... or just stick with the original plan to buy new from Nikon

Hi Heather,

I have bought both. New Nikon from B&H and refurbished from Nikon refurbished and Cameta. Never had an issue with refurbished. I would not consider used.

The time for me has come to upgrade my gear. I have been researching a new Nikon body. I know the one I love and my 2nd and 3rd choice. My question is should I just go to the retailer and purchase a brand new , never been touched camera, or is it ok to go with a used, or refurbished model? I have always bought new, When I wanted a lens or a camera I have went and bought brand new. but lately i have been seeing more and more used and refurbished gear, and was wondering if anyone has any experience with buying used... and what the heck does refurbished mean anyway?
Please do not give me suggestions on which model, or try to convert me to another brand. I only use Nikon. thanks.

A polarizer would have helped, even though it was cloudy. All that reflective surface is going to blow out a lot of your low contrast areas, especially ice and snow. Under exposure can usually be brought up in RAW. Over exposure is usually gone, period. You can easily add another couple of steps on your ISO.

I keep a filter on my lens at all times .... I know my DIO was yoo high.... my fault.. I did not adjust it. I was concentrated on the racing and just happen to spin around and " oh look at the clouds" click..... wiyhout any adjustments.
I knew already the photo was not salvageable....

New Mexico has the Rocky Mountains running through it from north to south. Farmington, to the far northwest of the state is within 50 miles of Durango, Colorado, and does get snow. There are many ski resorts in New Mexico as well. As for snowing often, the mountains usually get a fair amount which is good because that's what fills the rivers and keeps the mountains green. Try googling NM Ski Resorts to see more.

Hmm Interesting. I did not know that. Thanks for the info

I LOVE shoes! I take photos of mine (and other people's) all the time! Great challenge! Right up my alley,
here are some that i took, - none of these particular ones are mine. first two are from prom, the third one is an engagement session, the last is a senior session
can you tell I'm a sucker for heels :)

Any edit for me needs a goal. I saw as interesting the cars "floating" on the blown-out ice and snow. Cropped, burned, adjusted so the composition "points" to the cars, but it takes a while. A slow "wow!"

Yours is interesting and different approach. I like the colors... hehe "floating cars" - there was actually a light silver porsche carrerra 911 over there, and the only thing i could see was its wheels. I was annoyed by the cars and opted to remove them, I like your version. Thanks for playing :)
have a great day

Good morning UHH,

I took this photo on Sunday, in Wells, NY in the middle of Lake Algonquin, while watching the ice races...so i never did adjust my iso, it is a bit high...as is my speed. this was 1/325 F4 ISO 400 @18mm
- Those are a couple of the Adirondack Mountains - I am not sure which ones. Anyway, there was spectacular angry looking clouds over the sky and i really wanted a dramatic landscape - so I snapped this --- however it is lacking. I tried to adjust a few details, contrast, curves, exposure... I just cannot get it so that I am happy with it.

If anyone would like to play with it and repost your editing talent or what you would do differently, I would love to see......

Or, is it just not worth the effort and should be scrapped? PLease let me know what you think
the first image is the original photo... the second is my edit.

have fun
-Heather-
Good morning UHH, br br I took this photo on Sun... (show quote)
