I just took 3rd place in Mn. Magazine contest where the 1st place prize was having your photo on the cover---no payment involved. I still get to have my photo published inside the magazine which will give me some exposure in lieu of a financial payment. I was pretty happy at this point of just being published.......

I am very happy as well. Just curious to know if I should be charging.

Having my photo on the cover of a magazine that has a subscription of 500,000 was great fun, and I was compensated. However, in the future if I should be selected again for a magazine cover, what would be the expected compensation? Do I consider subscriptions, countries, or just accept what is offered.

Thanks

Our cruise is stopping at Puerto Limon Costa Rica. I am taking the boat tour to the Tortuguero Canals and wonder if anyone has been there. The tour advertizes wildlife, birds, monkeys and sloths. My question is how wide are the canals. I have a Canon 50D and a 24-105 L, and a 300 L. Is the 24-105 enough or do I need the 300? I will take a 50 f1.4 and a bridge camera also.

I visited several years ago and the canals are any width maybe 50' average.
Monkeys and toucans reside high in the trees. You will need a good lense.
Good luck you will love the black canels.

Thanks Ginny, the tour is on a pontoon boat and if the canels are ~50 wide and the boat travels near the center that leaves 25 feet plus the height of the trees. I think I will take a 100 mm f2 and the 300 mm f4 and the bridge camera FX150 panasonic

Not sure which camera. Probably Nikon D80. Sorry to be vague but I took it a while back. Thank you for your comment.

"Chasseur" was the name of the original Baltimore
schooner that sailed to England during the War of 1812 and brashly told King George they were under blockade (by one ship). She then sank or captured a large number of British merchant ships and was hailed back home as "The Pride of Baltimore." Hence the name of the first and second Pride of Baltimore.

Though the present ship is called the Pride of Baltimore, this little Dory which resides on the Pride is named "Chasseur" after the original schooner.

Thank you everybody. Your comments and interest in my website warm my heart. Unbelievable! Ten pages of UHH's and still climbing. Many of you have asked specific questions about the image. The light. It is sunlight. The Dory is outside on the deck of the Pride of Baltimore. It was summer and children and adults were everywhere. People dripping ice cream on the Dory's gunnels, children trying to climb into her, and me, trying to find the shot. I found it but the folks were still there. Through manipulation the people became the swirly background. Personally, I like black backgrounds if they fit the image. (Check out Furled on my Website.) Black makes the image Pop. I did not design the cover, BoatUS did that. They used my image which includes the Dory and the background. I think they did a great job with the colors they used for fonts etc. Particularly like the pulpit of the boat covering part of the title. It gives depth to the image. I took that pix a few years back so can't remember the camera. I generally shoot in auto and it may have been a Nikon DS 80. That is what I use today. Perhaps this is not the forum to broadcast an accomplishment but..I was bustin' my buttons and I faithfully follow the Hogs. You guys and gals are wonderful and I appreciate all the feedback!
