Excellent shots of fog. Thanks for sharing. I could not stop looking for detail in the pasture scene. I love shooting photos in the fog because things change so quickly and it keeps me on my toes.

Regarding composition, there is a great free excellent book online which is written from psychology and art view points. This book has many examples and is based on how people react to visual images... remember visual is primitive brain reaction center.. forward brain only generates verbiage to justify "feeling tone" of a photo. An excellent photo tells a story with feeling as opposed to a simple so-so documentation photo.

With regard to bridge cameras... they are lumpy.... compact pocket super zooms are with the person 24/7 and there if on Auto will quick fire the momentary happening.

On the computer, there are simple tools that save that shot from the hip photo: Straighten, flip, crop [crop to the story], clone and if needed adjustments such as brighten and contrast.

Flip to be used if one wants to conform to the left lower to going uphill to the upper right. If you shot text in a mirror you would flip it to be readable... same applies to photographs. The other adjustment I mentioned are obvious.
Regarding composition, there is a great free excel... (show quote)

Are you using windows 10? There is a possible problem with it recognizing usb 2.0 connections. My Canon 7D is not recognized on this machine but is fine on my laptops. Good luck.

Excellent response. Deciding what you want is not easy because there are a lot of choices with most cameras. Love the train tracks and steam.

I have been down this road and found it to be fun and well worth the effort. The challenges of photographing trees will make you think light and shadows. A polarized lens is a must for the bark of some trees and the leaves or needles of others. Color checker card really a must on reddish barked trees.
I used a gps to track my adventures through the trees. There always seems to be one tree you want to photograph again to get it right. Spring is one of my favorite times to do trees because of the way leaves unfold from the buds. Most importantly, have fun in this new world opening up in front of you.

An SD card is not a disk. A disk is magnetic media, that once bits are stored, the magnetic direction must be altered to change it. The DISK might be able to be read (the magnetic image stored on it), but an SD card is silicon media not magnetic.

Good point. Just be aware that there are videos out there that show how to recover data off silicon media. It is a time consuming process which criminals have plenty of. Do not just throw out a card that has data on it, especially if it has customer data on it.

Please excuse my reading skills if I missed it. What was the Brand and size of the SD card in question? My computer training leads me to agree with the person who noted there are ways to recover data off bad disk. Cards and drives are cheap so no one bothers to recreate what was lost except the trash divers. Price is the driver and recovery is not cheap.

Thanks for sharing your situation. It has me thinking about how my camera works when I look at the 9 little pictures on the back of my camera screen and scroll back thru say 27 photos. Is it getting the info off my card or internal memory of camera. Is there a way to check data on just backup card number 2?

WB in camera setting makes a difference in how your histogram will appear. RAW will correct just about everything if you forget to change it. Kelvin is the one who gets the credit or blame for camera settings.

What camera are you using? Camera or printer settings can get changed real easy and will get really different results when taking pictures of paintings. I just started having similar problem with printing from LR. My problem, (I hope) is my monitor needs to be re-calibrated. Good luck.

3 if straight out of camera. 1 is the one I would make a winner by toning down the sun on the layers of rocks. Too much light in foreground takes away from the detail in the wave. Tone down the sun and use LR Dehaze to improve sky and ocean. Wave pictures are a lot of fun. Printing red skies is a challenge. Have fun.

Great photos. I liked the last one "Rustic". It captures the plight of old barns being overgrown by brush yet the harvest goes on around it. My eye just kept looking at how many different styles of barns are in the photo. In a row is an excellent photo and will be popular. The barn is secondary to the rows and the beautiful sky. The Round Barn I liked after I got rid of the bright floodlights. Thanks for sharing your barn hunting adventure.

High Clearance vehicle if you are going exploring on dirt roads. It is easy to get stuck or hung up on rocks and two vehicles can make a huge difference. It is unbelievable the amount of stuff there is to photograph. I like Dante's view because it gives you a perspective of how much there is to explore. Wide angle lens to take it all in and a polarized lens to cut the haze. Saline Valley is one of my favorite places (landscape is like the moon and great night photography) and it can be unforgiving so do not get in a hurry and pay attention. Shoshone is a good area to explore. Have fun.

I was pretty disgusted with how dirty the ornament was after seeing the captures on screen so I cleaned it. Top pic is Yongnuo and second is Canon.I also worked with the captures to compensate for the compact florescent lighting. Equal treatment.

I looked at the writing on bottom left and the smile line and to me the canon lens is sharper.
Could it be just a difference in quality of 1A filter on the lens.
The difference in colors between the two lenses has me stumped. Have fun with it.
