Well said! Sometimes the green eyed monster has its way with people. And there's nothing worse than a know it all pontificating and pooh poohing someone else's choices.

Love the topic. First, I'm not a professional photographer but an enthusiast. I've gone through a conversion process myself in which I went from a traditional DSLR (Nikon cropped sensor) to the mirrorless four-thirds system (Oly) to a traditional DSLR (Pentax cropped sensor) back to mirrorless, the Fuji X system. I now have a Fujifilm X-E2 and am a very happy camper with that. I use it with adapters and old film era lenses, I've got a series of M42 screwmount primes and an old Nikon F mount Prime. I bought the Nikon system new back in 2005 (D70) and used it until about 2012 when I sold the system to obtain the Oly Omd Em1. That I used until about mid 2016 then sold it off for a used Pentax K-3. Just recently I sold the K-3 to get into Fuji X because I missed the smaller form factor and the enhanced focusing ability of a mirrorless system. It hasn't been so much a GAS thing as a progression of learning what works best for me. I've gone through this journey of sorts in a way that is the most efficient in terms of economy. The only new systems I got into were the first and second transitions - since then it's been purchasing used equipment to arrive to where I am now. I believe that the Fuji X form factor is perfect for what I like doing. It combines a larger sensor size (versus the four thirds) with the compactness of the Fuji X and the lovely focusing system of the excellent EVF's on Fujifilm bodies which work so well with older adapted film era lenses. All that said some time in the future I fully intend to pick up a second Fujifilm body like the X-E3 and one of the versatile autofocus zooms like the 18-55mm or possibly the 18-135mm. Cheers!

I'm basically hooked already on Fuji just from all of the possibilities with the glass I already have when used with the appropriate adapters. Indeed, the first thing I will do when receiving the X-E2 will be to fully charge the battery then update the firmware! I've had the scenario mapped out and have already downloaded the update. Out of the camera JPEGs from the Fuji is another reason I chose Fuji. As for post processing I've already been doing full manual and/or Aperture priority using predominantly spot metering for some time now. The fully manual lenses force you to slow down and try to get it right the first time. That said I'll continue to shoot in Raw/Jpeg mode because for some images I really like being able to tweak the parameters of the digital copy without the degradation that happens when over processing jpegs. All of my lenses are from the film area and lovely pieces of hardware. The color rendering, tonality and clarity from these old lenses can be breathtaking! That doesn't mean I won't acquire some excellent Fuji glass in the future but my enthusiasm is in looking for classic film era lenses. The Fujifilm XF16mm F/1.4 R WR will be on my shortlist and the Fujifilm 18-135mm XF f/3.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR looks appealing as well.

Be very careful! That X-E2 that you acquired for entry into the Fujifilm "cult" might become addictive.

Two things you did not mention:

Be certain to upgrade the firmware to the latest iteration (Ver. 4.01?); making the X-E2IV nearly the same camera as an X-E2S.

Learn how to create different JPEG images, using the simple Fujifilm X in-camera RAW converter. Much fun and may keep you out taking pictures, rather than in front of your computer (trying to get it right).

Hi Cathy,
Have you considered purchasing used from a reputable dealer such as KEH, B&H etc to use as a bridge until you can purchase exactly what you want? That's exactly what I'm doing and have done. I'm lusting after the Fujifilm X-T2 but my budget says that an X-E2 from KEH for a fraction of the cost (will do about 90% of what an X-T2 will do) will suffice until I do get the X-T2 or the next iteration when I'm able to swing it.
The phones are handy for snapshots and the best camera is the one you have but I can't see them replacing dedicated cameras any time soon!

Back in 2005 I purchased my first digital camera, a Nikon D70 and the 18-70mm kit lens that came with it. I then added the Sigma 150-500mm and the Nikkor 35mm F/1.8 Prime. That all served me well until 2013 when I sold everything to get the Oly Omd Em1 and the amazing Oly 12-40mm, along with a few Oly primes. I loved the EVF of the Oly but longed to get back into a DSLR with a larger sensor so sold everything and last year purchased a used Pentax K-3 and some film era M42 primes. The K-3 is an amazing camera but I missed the EVF and compactness of a mirrorless system. After doing some research I've settled on the Fujifilm mirrorless series. What convinced me is it's excellent EVF, the larger size of the sensor compared to the FourThirds sensor cameras, the controls and ergonomics of the camera and Fuji's excellent customer care and product support. I know that Sony has a FF mirrorless but I've not heard good things about their customer care or product support and their stuff is, well, pretty expensive in comparison to the competition. Add to that the lack of glass available for Sony and that led me to the Fujifilm system. Ideally I'd get an X-T2 but the budget won't allow right now so I've purchased a used X-E2 (it's now in delivery mode) which has an excellent size and form factor for street and travel photography. I'm fully intending to get an X-T2 or it's next iteration in the coming year and keeping the X-E2 as a backup. I'm eagerly anticipating being up and running by the middle of next week with the X-E2 and the assortment of adapted lenses I've accumulated!

I'm in the same boat as you. Right now the only camera I have is my smart phone. I've got a number of film legacy lenses, Asahi, Yashica and Nikon which I'll adapt to what I get which makes Fuji my favorite choice with it's apc sensor and focusing aids. I'm waiting to see how the X-E3 reviews then will make my choice. Going to get my hands on both in the store for initial personal impressions first. Damn, patience is a PITA!
