Nice shot, Tom! Screaming Scot has the info down pat! Glad you got interested in butterflies. They can be most fascinating in all their forms!
Yes, I think his point is that if it has considerable blue on the top of the rear wings then it's a female even if it has the yellow /black color pattern. I have to admit these butterflies can be very interesting and I know regrettably little about them. Thanks for looking, Carolyn, and for the nice comment on my picture!!! ---Tom
Tom, dear, that is Joe Pye weed as I see Donna has mentioned. The butterfly is beautiful! Nice shot!
Thank you, Carolyn, for looking and I'm so glad you enjoyed the butterfly shot and the Joe Pye weed. This plant is doing a good job enticing the butterflies to come and feed a while.
Beautiful shot, Tom! I've notice some leaved on a couple of crabapple trees starting to turn ...and Fall doesn't start for a few more weeks!
Yes, CathyAnn, I just noticed that myself around here this evening on a couple of decorative fruit trees. It's definitely sending us hints of what lies ahead. I'm glad you liked my shot, thanks for looking and commenting!!! ---Tom
