My Dad, who was a Ceramic Engineer, commented once that 1960 was the first time his salary was over $10,000. We had macaroni-and-cheese a lot as a kid .... only later did I realize that reflected how little he received in the 1950's.

He made $87,500 in 2020 dollars

In todays dollars it cost around $80,000
In 1980's dollars it would of cost $24,000

Inflation was not the reason for the $1,000,000 sale price.

They picked a really good area to buy a house.

К-1 is an excellent camera, I had a lot of great shots with it. You will not regret buying it. Now you should buy Pentax's collection of Limited series primes - 15mm, 21mm, 35mm, 70mm. I also strongly recommend Pentax HD D FA 28-105mm f3.5-5.6 ED DC WR lens. It is not a "pro" level, but it's outstanding.

I have the D FA 15-30 F2.8, D FA 24-70 F 2.8 and the 70-200 Star telephoto...
Have the camera for 4 years now... Upgraded it to K-1 Mkii when the upgrade was available.

It requires a huge amount of energy and compromise to be the market leader. It is generally not sustainable.

Think about the televisions that RCA made while they were the market leader. Were they the television that you bought if you were a TV enthusiast? Absolutely not. There were others that were far better. As for the oft-lamented Kodak, how long has it been, if ever, since you would have been interested in any camera that Kodak built.

Companies that worry about where they rank historically do a much better job serving their stockholders than their customers, because they rarely expend the energy to learn how to serve both.

This is true in almost every industry. I would much rather buy something important from a competent niche company than from one who specializes in racking up numbers and raking in money.

I did see a review on amazon where the capacity rating of the battery is misleading..

Reviewed in the United States on June 17, 2020
Verified Purchase
I should first start off by explaining that the batteries are labeled in a milli-Watt-hour rating which is deceiving to begin with. Most batteries are rated in milli-Amp-hours. When I first opened the package I put them on my charger to test the amp hour rating. The results are in the picture that is attached. I should also let you know that I have tested other batteries and the numbers appear pretty accurate from my tester. These batteries average around 500 mAh each. That breaks down to about 800 mWh (mWh)/(V) =(mAh), which is nowhere close to 2500 mWh that it's labeled as. I also used two of the batteries in an Xbox One controller just to see how long they would last. They did not last very long at all. I returned the batteries, and I would not recommend them.

ENELOOP like most other Nickle-Metal Hydrate (NiMH) rechargeable batteries are 1.2v, while disposable batteries are 1.5v. That wouldn't be a problem for just one battery, but a speedlight is most likely using four. 4x1.2 = 4.8, while 4x1.5=6, and that makes a difference. After a few flashes, it will start thinking the batteries and weak, and it will take longer to recycle.

I use Piscell Nickle-Zinc (NiZn) batteries. They are 1.6v. Then you can use 4x1.6=6.4, which is a bit high, but shouldn't be a problem.

But what I like to do is 3 NiZn batteries, and 1 NIMH battery for 3x1.6+1.2 = 6.0v. Exactly what the Speedlight wants.

I have a flash, uses 6 AA batteries. have enloope batteries - never had an issue. mabey it depends on the flash.
Piscell batteries are hard to find.. can you provide a link

Can you recommend a RAID device?

simpliest raid ( equivalent ) would be to use 2 external drives.. each one having the same exactfiles.

There are free software programs to keep them synchronized.

More expensive would be to use an external raid enclosure.

2 Drives would be disk mirroring. 3 drives would be raid 5. raid 5 allows one drive to fail. Then replace the failed drive the raid 5 hardware will rebuild the replaced drive.

2 esternal drives would be cheapest solution.

Yep, Canon still #1.

In fact, Canon's 45.4% market share is greater than Sony, Nikon and Fuji's combined. To keep this announcement from being sent to the back 40 of Links & Resources, let's reference the summary numbers provided by Nikkei Asian Review, just published for the 2019 worldwide market share for digital cameras (gathered from 74 countries) :

Canon 45.4% (+ 2.4)
Sony 20.2% (+ 0.9)
Nikon 18.6% (- 1.6)
Fujifilm Holdings 4.7% (- 0.4)
Panasonic 4.7% (0.0 )

For no particular reason I am trying to remember the name of the Kodak 35mm film I used to shoot. It was a 25 ASA film that had to be refridgerated. I think it was Varicolor professional. I can't remember if this is the right name. Sorta like standing in front of the open fridge door, and trying to figure out why. Does anyone remember the right name of the film--Thanks

Vericolor ( VPS) was ASA 160.. I used to shoot it on my Graflex XL. Latest was Vericolor III.

Kodacolor ( ASA 25 ) was available until 1963.

Buy it off eBay for $5.00 or less

Anything you buy that is extremely cheap you run the risk that the program has been modified to install all kinds of nefarious software.

If all you are buying is a "key" that is a different story as you can download the trial version and use the key to activate it.

There is a reason why the software is $5.00 they want access to your computer.
