If you want to upgrade, why not the 7XXX series. That would be an update, not another 5XXX series.

Well I‘be become really familiar with my D5100, so adding the D5600 would not necessitate becoming familiar with a new camera series. Also I like the feel and weight of the 5XXX Series as a walking around camera, which is steering me towards just updating to the D5600. Also when I want to do serious photography I have my D750, which is my go to for events, exhibitions and such.

Considering upgrading from my Nikon D5100 as my every day camera to the D5600. Already have more than a half dozen lenses in the DX format for the D5100. Would greatly appreciate any input the group might have.

Not too long ago, a few months, my neighbor put in a request for her daughter. She’s attending the NYC School of Visual Arts and needed a 35mm camera for her class work. Guess that says something about whether film is an endangered format or not.

I have a couple of Zomei aluminum, purchased on Amazon. I believe they fit your criteria, and are fairly stable when used at less then full extension.

First the only practical experience of the cameras you listed I have, is with the D750, which is a great camera. Going on my other camera is a faithful old D5100. I find both more then adequate for backyard wildlife photography, shooting from the comfort of my dining room with both on tripods. However, if one is going to wander out and about as I do here on the beaches of Long Island, I find carrying the 750 can be a bit laborious and often opt for the 5100 as there is a significant difference in weight especially when walking about with a large lens, 200-500 or 200-400. Since for you weight is a consideration and it appears you will be a wandering, opting for the lightest of the three, the D500 which has gotten quite a bit of praise in these responses, may be your most favorable choice. Good luck, good shooting and have fun with which ever you choose.

We noticed our little Schitzu was showing undue interest in our backyard last evening. I found the remains of a cotton tail rabbit and am wondering what animal would kill in this fashion (we have owls, hawks, cats, and on extremely rare occasions a coyote, bobcat in the general neighborhood). I took photos but probably best to just describe what I found.

Image a large African Sumac in our backyard, large areas of grass. At the 5 oclock position on the ground as you look at the tree was an area of rabbit fur in patches. then around the tree at about the noon position was the neatly removed entrals...lungs, liver, intestines. About 4 feet away, at the 2 oclock position was the head of the rabbit...no ears.

Anyone have any ideas of which predator is likely to kill in this fashion? Despite searching the entire back yard (enclosed with 6 foot fence) I could not find the rest of the carcass.

Sounds as though a Cat may have been the preliminary executioner. We have many strays and ferals around our area that I know to hunt the rabbits we have in abundance. As to the carcass, my guess is one of the local scavengers may have followed up, possums and raccoons are both omnivores and known to have a go at a fresh kill. Have you considered the possibility of one of the larger raptors being in the neighborhood, such as an eagle, falcon or larger hawk. I don't believe a Coopers hawk would take down a large rabbit though I've seen them much as you described to a mourning dove.

I discovered that Best Buy...specifically the one near the Mall of Georgia, NE of Atlanta..has a very large selection of cameras on display to handle.

I had been looking at adding a smaller camera for travel....reading reviews...watching YouTube videos. I pretty much ruled out all the cameras I handled.

I also handled most of the DSLR’s I could have an interest in....and decided I didn’t want to hike 5 miles with a full frame camera.

With camera stores being almost as hard to find as phone booths, I thought someone might find this information helpful. I would think that some Best Buy stores in other areas would have similar displays. And yes, I would consider buying from Best Buy, when and if I decide on a new camera.

Good discovery, while many Best Buys have limited displays, there seems to be select stores that have fairly good selections. Often including higher end amateur and low end professional models. If one is crafty and has a rewards program associated with their credit card, you can accumulate a significant amount of gift cards towards a future acquisition. Which is how I acquired my Nikon D750 and some lenses at substantial savings. Good shopping to you my fellow Hog!

I use Op-Tech straps on all my cameras and heavy lenses. Each camera body and heavy lens has the Op-Tech quick disconnect connectors on them so I can use whichever strap or harness I choose at the time.

I apparently have reached another milestone in life after turning 75. When I turned 65 I started receiving hearing aid brochures on a regular basis, and still do. Today, I received an advertisement from a crematoria. Jeeez, I wonder if I'll start getting these on a regular basis now.

Only hit the SIX O a few days a go and I've been getting those "time to consider your final resting place" mailings for years!

I'll add Hunt's Camera to burkphoto's list. Many of us here, including me, have dealt with them since they were known as Hunt's Drug, and were in the back of an actual drugstore. Good people, good citizens of photo nation, and good source of bargains and honest dealings.

I worked for a well known family owned department store here in New York, now defunct. We use to start setting up for Christmas in late July and early August, getting displays and fixturing in place so we could merchandise and have an opening in mid October. Yes, it is way to early start thinking about the Holiday, however since our core business was holiday decorations it was a necessity, since that business peaked about Thanksgiving.

[quote=Annie Loyd]I have a great tripod with a ball head, love it but it’s heavy to carry. I’m looking for a good one that’s used and not an arm and leg to buy..[/quot

Took a sneak peek at your previous posts and see you have a D750, so you'll want a fairly sturdy tripod. You didn't mention what lens combinations you'll be using which will be a factor in what to look for in a tripod. If you would enlighten us as to that, you'll get better recommendations. As far as light weight you'll most likely need to go Carbon Fiber with that camera. One other thought, have you considered a monopod?
