He's under a yellow umbrella. He should look yellowish. He does. Perfectly normal - looks fine as it is.

If you are traveling to some dicey areas, I do recommend backup to the cloud whenever possible. There is always the possibility that you will be robbed and lose everything. This is especially the case if you are actually using your phone for backup; phones can be stolen. I keep my backup drive with my clothes and not with my equipment, for that reason.

Good point. Consider that much of the world has faster internet than we do in the US, so backup to the cloud may often be less painful. Carrying a cheap laptop so you can preview and upload only the keepers might be more practical in terms of connection time but would take more involvement. Not a bad idea to review photos on a sufficient screen so you have a chance to notice any problems with the camera anyway... I have been backing up to 256GB USB thumb drives on recent trips and doing some uploads to Smugmug while traveling. The little drives are kind of easy to mislay, but I also use them as the working directory on my laptop so I don't wind up clogging up the modest SSD where the OS and software reside. My laptop is considerably fancier than I need for just previewing and uploading, but marginal for very ambitious editing.

You still need some way to copy files from one card to another if you are going to make a backup, unless your camera can save to two cards at once.

It may be that DN converts multi-pixel, monochromatic blobs of noise into the same number of pixels with different colors to create a gradient between the boundaries of the blob. This would not be as readily compressed as a blob and would increase the file size accordingly. You might inspect some of your images - maybe crop a noisy picture down to a few hundred pixels, then apply DN to a copy of the crop and compare them both for file size and visually to test my theory. Comparing histograms of the two samples might be informative.

Thank you. Rafting the canyon with a guided party in oar rafts and a motor cargo raft is pretty thrilling, as much for the scenery as for the rapids, but it is not particularly challenging for even a moderately fit passenger as long as you have sound legs and can be comfortable enough with some awkward seating. They afford you, if you take at least a 12-day trip (helicoptering out from the Whitmore Wash area), plenty of opportunities for hikes, 1 - 3 per day and a fairly leisurely evening on a beach every night. You are expected to chip in with unloading gear and to set up your own cot or tent, and one might find the toilet arrangements, ever-present fine sand and some shared compromise of modesty/privacy a little discomforting, but most folks find those trivial compared to the beauty of the place, the pleasure of the shared experience and the quality of the food. One can usually ride the motor raft if you want to prioritize photography over wet fun for part of the time. You'll need a good dry case for gear and facility with handling it all in less than ideal circumstances but it's quite doable. I recommend it highly as a bucket list item for any nature photographer or outdoor enthusiast. I will post a link to photos from the trip (my second) on UHH soon.

I think the exposure needed to be increased, but the color shift looks weird to me.

Thanks for sharing great images. Glad you were able to keep your equipment dry and working.

Me too - I rode on the support boat some of the time and kept my good gear in a Pelican box tied down on top of the cargo pile where I could get into it easily between rapids, and get at it to put things in my backpack for day hikes even if I was riding one of the oar boats. No harm done...

Karen and I rafted the Grand with a party of 14, mostly friends and a few extended friends/family in May. We had a 37' mothership with outboard power and three oar rafts. Tour West conducted a great trip - very proficient, knowledgeable guides and great food. We did a lot of hiking. A few of the party hiked quite a way up Stone Creek, where I found the first two, and the whole group walked up National Canyon to the chockstone pool where the third was perched.

This one was giving me and everything/everyone in earshot the what-for. I didn't take offense - he was putting on a pretty good airshow.
