Thank you, Ann. I can't believe you found that topic; must have been buried many pages back! That was the first summer I had the sx50 - and before I got addicted to post processing :)

Best wishes that you'll soon acquire all the gear you hope for!

:-) Since I'm new here, I've been doing quite a bit of exploring of the site. I began taking photos a few years ago on a SX510 myself.
When you all speak of post processing , are you referring to lightroom, photoshop, etc? I've been using a DSLR for less than a year, and found lightroom about six months ago. Learning to use the camera, lightroom and smug mug has been a real adventure, to say the least! I still manage a private practice too. Sometimes I think my brain will implode!! But I'm having fun.

Since I had such a great response to my last weeks Alaska posting. Thank you very much, here are some more, again you might find some grain as some were scanned from slides.

Excellent shots, Mike. Thanks for posting them.

Delightful shots!

I chuckled over your story. I shoot a local eagle's nest with my Canon SX50, and every so often I'll see visitors set up their white lenses and tripods. That inspired me to title one of my UHH topics, "the view from the cheap seats" :)

Thank you Linda! I went to the link. Liked your eagle shots and the shots of the photographers! I was over 200 yards away and came on to the clearing where they were congregated, clicking away. Maybe someday I'll be toting one of those lenses around too, when I've been at this for awhile and earn my stripes.

Very nice set. The first shot is my favorite. It is beautifully sharp and the reflection is great.

Thank you Carol! I was able to get much closer on the single shots.

I am in Glacier National Park and there is a storm with 70mph winds. We climbed up a very steep hill to reach this spot at 4:30 AM. The 30 second exposure made great streaks with the clouds. This is unprocessed.

Whoa!!

I have no words to adequately express the awe I feel when I see this pic! Unprocessed???!!! What a wonderful reward for your patience and effort! Magnificent!

Hi everyone. I'm new to this forum and my passion is bird pics. I just posted a series of a Western Grebe family taken Friday at the Wetlands and would appreciate any feedback. I just now saw this forum so I subscribed and will be reading the past topics.
In the meantime, here are a few of the birds in flight photos taken on Friday. Pelicans mostly and a dragon fly.

We went to the San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary in Irvine Thursday and happened on this active little Grebe family. There were about 7 or 8 photographers there with 600mm lenses on tripods clicking away, and I boldly took my place with my puny 100-400mm, not to be intimidated. ;)

Anyway, here are some favorites. Probably best to download to see most.

Went to the Pond the other day in hope to get some images of shore birds. It was an overcast day and also a little misty.
Well, I wasn't able to get any shore birds, but this Mockingbird looked so cute sitting in this tree.

Beautiful portrait in the tree. Is it cedar? Clear and appealing, Lilo!

Just saw this on the Audubon site today describing the differences between the Cooper's Hawk and the Sharp Shinned Hawk. The scaling on the breast of the individual's resembles the Sharp Shinned Hawk more than the Coopers in the pic Chuck posted above. Oh geez, no wonder you had a hard time id'ing, Chuck!!!

Gradually fall is starting in Tehran, The weather was nice and got a chance to go to the park nearby for a walk this morning. The color of the leaves, showered with the early morning rays of the sun is absorbing.

Very nice Farrokh! I'm a big leave fan. Nice to see them given center stage the beautiful way you did!

Yes the OMD is a mirrorless micro 4/3rds camera and I shoot the birds with an Olympus 75-300mm lens. Most of the bird shots you see from me are at a minimum of 35 feet out to 30 yards,or so, depending on the size of the bird... Most of the shots are cropped at least at 2x and often 3x.

I need to learn how people measure their crop. I also have some photos of backyard birds I took this Spring. I'll try to post them over the weekend when I have some time. Thank you for the details.
