I need help with profiles in Lightroom Classic. I have been taking a lot of infrared pictures lately with a conversion done by Kolari. In the Develop Module, the lowest level on the temprature slider is 2000. But temperatures of -50 or -100 are best for IR, before sending them to Photoshop. I made profiles with the DNG editor so as to be able to reduce the temperature to these levels. I can see the profiles in LRC, and when I click on either of them the frame surrounding them lights up, so they appear to be selected. But when I close the profile browser, the profiles do not work. The lowest I can get is still 2000, the same as when I do not select a lower profile. Does anyone have any advice for making the profiles work as they should? Many thanks in advance.

Thanks. I read the UHH daily, and really appreciate your sane way of looking at things. I also like the fact that you are the owner of several Panasonics. I love mine.
Btw, I don't know if anyone on UHH has asked whether cameras no longer need really expensive equipment to get pro level sharpness, given the availability of programs like Topaz produces. that is, why buy expensive Sony gear, when Panasonic gear tweaked with a little AI can give very satisfactory results?

Dear hoggers,
I am going with family members to Norway for ten days. We will be in Oslo, a national park, and Bergen, and several other places. My question: I have a Lumix FZ 300 and a Lumix FZ 1000. Which should I take? The 300 has a 600 mm zoom with a 2.8 constant aperture. The 1000 has 400 mm zoom with a 4.0 constant aperture. The 300 has a 1 /2.3 inch sensor, the 1000 has a one inch sensor. I like the extra zoom of the 300, but how meaningful is the 200 mm difference in the real world? I suspect that I can crop the 1000 images to get the 300 size and still have better IQ. What do You think? Thanks in advance for your replies.

I have a Lumix zs 100, and had a zs70, which I gave to my son. Both have filter adapters from Lensmate. They both take 52mm filters. They advertise the zs 100, but no lower numbers (50, 70, 80), but if I am not mistaken, they all have identical front surfaces of the lens (which is the surface you see when the camera is turned on).
My adapters are solidly attached with MMM sticky substance. And the adapter adds only a couple of mm, so unless you are wearing jeans, the camera will still be pocketable.
I am just as big a fan of Lensmate as I am of Panasonic.
Good luck!

Architect opened an interesting thread on the uses or non-uses of AI plug-ins. But there is one use that none of the respondents mentioned. In fact, I have never seen this use discussed on these pages.
That is the ability to avoid the $6K cameras and the $12K lenses in favor of less expensive, more portable cameras.
Don't get me wrong. I have a very good camera an Olympus E-M1ii and a pro 12-100 lens. this combination must be handled with care, it is so sharp. But I generally use this set up (or primes for indoors) for sports.
But for most everything else, I use a bridge camera--either a Panasonic FZ1000 or ZS100. Both of these are versatile and provide good results. They are much more portable than the Oly, and I waste no time changing lenses. The ZS100 is always with me or in my car. I can't imagine carrying the Oly and a bagful of lenses all of the places I go with my Panasonics. The sharpness may not equal the Oly, but with a touch of AI, they come close.
For the most part I use Topaz AI Clear, which is part of the Topaz Studio plug-in. I find it much faster than Denoise AI or Sharpen AI. It both removes noise at three levels AND sharpens at the same time.
If I have to crop to a small portion of the image, I use On1 Resize rather than Gigapixel, as it is faster and gives more choices for size. The results from these products give quite acceptable results in terms of noise and definition.
By the way, I think the current mania for sharpness is overdone. You can examine an image at 100 or 200 percent looking for noise or lack of sharpness, but if you print the image at a reasonable size, such as 16 x 12 inches, you will never notice the "faults." A wise person once told me that if you can's see it from two feet, it doesn't exist. What is more important to me is the overall impact of the image.

Sounds like a Panasonic Lumix ZS 70, 80, or other. But a Lumix has a Leica branded lens.
I have one as well as the zs100. Like them both. And I have an attachment from Lens Mate on each, so that I can use 52mm filters.
But how do you get 30 x 40 inch prints? Do you use any Topaz products in your processing?
Like Sharpen AI, Gigapixel, or other? I get good 16 x 12 prints, but have never tried to go larger. I have a Canon pro 100, whose largest size paper (unless on a roll) is 13 x 19 inches.
Thanks for any reply you may choose to give. BTW, I REALLY liked the beach scene.

Thanks again, Topcat!
I am still not sure which direction to go in. I'll probably call Kolari first. Then decide whether to get an old Sony (Nex 7) or Olympus converted.
Happy trails and fun shooting to you!

Many thanks.
I have read that the lens makes a great deal of difference. What lens do you usually use on the converted camera?

Hi, Topcat,
I had my Panasonic zs50 converted to IR. Although before conversion it produced pretty good detail, converted it suffers, especially, strangely enough, in the lower right hand quadrant. I certainly do not get the amount of detail you get througout. So...I am wondering what camera you converted and who did it.
Just to be complete, the ZS50 has 12 megapixels, a 1/2.3 inch sensor, a 24 to 720 zoom, and was converted by Kolari.
Thanks in advance for any info you might send.

I have had ON 1 since 2017.I have resisted all offers to upgrade.I only use it for Resize. Still works, and works well. It is light speeds faster than AI Gigapixel. I suggest you check the version you have by going to help>>about. It may be fine with no up-grading.

I have one. I think you will like it. I also have a zs50, which I had converted to infra-red by Kolari. It produces wonderful pictures. I also have a zs70, which has greater zoom. And I have my trusty fz1000, which though several years old still produces great images.

Hi, I am beginning to lose track of all I have responded to. Right now I am in limbo. The first person to make an offer has yet to get back to me with his mailing address. I will call him around noon tomorrow--he lives two time zones to the west of me. If he still wants it he can buy it. If not there are two others who offered the full price ahead of you. so that puts you third in line, I am sorry to say. I wish I had more of the camera to sell!
What ever happens, I will let you know.
