Going to this beautiful part of the country in about 2 weeks for 7-9 days or so. Been about 10 years since there and wondering if anyone has any suggestions on other "sights" in the region? Don't mind driving a bit out of the way and am very flexible.

I was in YNP almost a year ago for a week. From what I have heard, the crowds arrive beginning the second week in June, but the wildflowers don't bloom before that. So you have a conundrum.

One thing I recommend is the Photo Safari leaving the Yellowstone Hotel about 5:15 am. The guides will try to find Grizzly Bears, excellent shots of the sunrise on the Tetons (from YNP), sunrise on Lake Yellowstone (at Pelican Creek), Bison (of course), and the falls in the Grand Canyon at the right time to catch the rainbows. Well worth the cost IMHO. One the tour with these folks that I took, we could not find the bears, but we did catch Marrmots, Elk, Moose, beaver, bison and many birds.

Enjoy your trip!

Let see siting here having coffee before going outside to shovel my drive way. That's right SNOW. I am two hours drive from Tetons. Storms can produce great photo op.

Google is your friend. That is what I use when going someplace, even YP/GT.

PM if you have any specifics.

Very nice route, but you need to check road conditions in May,depending on how far you want to go. If you're able to reach Cooke City, you can run Lamar Valley to Mammoth Springs.

Be careful not to follow to close behind other cars. People will slam on there brakes & stop in the middle of the road if they spy wildlife. Park officials are kept busy with all the finder binders. Enjoy your trip. It is an amazing place.

Outstanding - the sailplane took us above the Tetons. Great views of not only the Tetons but of various Alpine lakes, climbers. Got some great photos.

Also, here's some other information which may be useful:
- Here's a link to the museum: http://tetonaviation.com/
- Cost of the flight wasn't exhorbitant. It was on the order of $150 as I recall. Lasted quite a while.
- The airport and its cafe are far better than you'd expect in a small town. I understand its owned or subsidized by a member of the King Ranch family.
- Saw a bald eagle nesting on a lamppost in route to Driggs. It's only about, as I recall, 30 miles from Jackson hole.
- A fun thing to watch for (assuming it's still there six years later) is a drive in theater in Driggs. That's Idaho potato country, and the drive-in is called the Spud, and they have a giant fiberglas potato in front of the theater.
- Since a few years have gone by, suggest you call ahead and confirm things are still as I've indicated.

When I was there a few years ago, we went over to Driggs, Idaho to the airfield there. There's two things of interest. First, there is an outstanding aircraft museum at that airport. You'll be amazed at the planes on display. And, as I recall,it's free.

Second, I took a sailplane ride over the Tetons. It was an experience I'll never forget.
