My deepest sympathies. Will Rogers said. "If dogs don't go to heaven, I want to go where they are!" My thoughts exactly.

This took me back to materials laboratory in engineering school. We pulled apart a steel bar in a Universal Hydraulic Testing Machine or UHTM. The purpose was to generate a stress-strain diagram and determine the yield point, ultimate strength, and failure point. After several years in the chemical industry as a maintenance engineer, then maintenance manager, I gained a real appreciation for this bit of knowledge I obtained. In several cases, it resulted in the success of a project versus a failure of the machine.

As an engineer, this is really cool - and nerdy - stuff!

I grew up in New Orleans and the brown pelican was almost an endangered species. Some were relocated from Florida and now they have spread across the Gulf Coast including Texas where they are now more abundant than the white's. BTW, a group of pelicans is called a flight since they normally fly in formations. Check it out!

The Nazi episode was very interesting. Gene Roddenberry used the series as a vehicle to promote peace and world unity. By the way, the Prime Directive was violated in almost every episode whether intended or not. The book episode involved "Chicago" gangsters of the 1930's.

Yes, I am a Trekkie and an engineering nerd!

Nice shots but I thought it would at least have an eye patch and a parrot on its shoulder!

If you have never chewed coffee, you have never been to a few dives in New Orleans. I grew up on it. We didn't need teething rings and we got crawfish heads instead of pacifiers!

I use Adobe's MyPortfolio for my photos mainly because it is free and fairly easy to use. KelbyOne has a great class on using including setting it up. My domain name was set up by Adobe based on my username. No, I haven't tried Google Analytics but I will look into it. I wish I had known it was there sooner.

As a wise Native American once said, "Only the federal government would believe that you can make a blanket longer by cutting two inches off the bottom and sewing it on the top."

Yes, buzzards or vultures. Most people think they are vile disgusting creatures, and I agree, but let's remember they are natures means of removing and recycling carcasses of dead animals. Just think what it would be like without them.

At one time, the Jefferson Parish Louisiana Sheriff, Harry Lee, was sponsoring an "Eat More Nutria" campaign to educe the numbers of them. They can be pretty tasty if prepared correctly. The nutria (pronounced nu-tra) also have really cool looking orange colored front teeth!

Try contacting Tamron and seeing if the warranty is still in effect. Sounds like a lens problem.

How about starting with the "sunny 16" rule? Basically, on a sunny day start with f/16 with a shutter speed of 1/ISO rating and bracket. Most cameras can bracket 1 over and 1 under. From what I can see, the capture appears at least 2 stops (possibly 3 stops) overexposed. I can see shooting at ISO 800 if I wanted shutter speed of 1/800 second.

Ansel Adams said, "A good photograph is knowing where to stand." The article says the same thing, "If you want more interesting photos, stand in front of interesting things." The best advice I've ever heard!
