The reviews I have seen of the new Sony a7r3 indicate that Sony has solved the battery problem. That said my Sony a7r2 goes a long way on a single battery easily doing hundreds of shots. For professionals the a7r2 battery life may be a nightmare but for the rest of us it seems if you have 1 or 2 backup batteries you're good.

Thanks, JM ... a good appraisal ...

Only thing is ... you wrote that you OWNED it - past tense ... something went wrong with it, or what?

Hi Chris,
Nothing went wrong with the camera. I sold it on e-Bay. I upgraded to the Sony a7rII this year. I found the a6000 to be a great camera but always planned to eventually go to a more top of the line camera.

Yes you need a viewfinder and right now the a6000 with 16 50mm lens is a great deal.
The a6000 line is great for stills and video.

Owned the camera. Has 24 mp, a very good focusing system, many features and can produce great photos. It's a great camera and a tremendous deal for that price.

I liked Aperture as well. However after Apple stopped updating Aperture I bought a new Sony a6300 in 2016. I found that Aperture would not recognize the raw files from the a6300. It did recognize JPEGs. I then switched over to Lightroom. As good as Aperture is LR is fantastic and has tools that I never saw in Aperture.

I took a 3 year old video camera into Adorama and the price they quoted was quite low. They were good enough to tell me I was better off selling it privately. I used eBay Valet which pays you up to 80% of the sales price. On that sale I netted out more than I would have gotten from Adorama. Unless you sell a lot of items on eBay (I forget how much) the most you can list something for is $500. So if you want more than that your only option is eBay valet if you wish to sell on eBay. I have traded in a couple of other items to Adorama. The big plus is the fast turn around time if you are trading in. I was not blown away by what they were willing to pay. The 70% figure is pretty much what they decide the market value is. In the case of one of my Sony mirrorless cameras (8000 shutter count less than 1 year old) their figure was also low IMO.

I owned both cameras. My take away was the a6300 photos were better. That said I don't think the difference is dramatic. The best part was the upgraded focusing system. IMO, that change provided a noticeable improvement and worth the extra money.

Does anyone have any experience with the new Sony FE 100-400 mm lens? I ran into someone who was using it and they said it was very sharp. DXO gives the lens a score of 29 which puts it well below Sony's two FE 100-200 mm lenses. However, if you look at DXO's underlying field measurements you see this new lens is sharp just about across the board no matter what the focal length or aperture. DXO gave it a 36 on sharpness. It was tested on the Sony A7rII. This is quite an expensive lens but if you own Sony it's something to look at.

I traded the a6300 in for the a7rII in January during the trade in sale. The a7rII is one of the top rated cameras. Check it out on DPreview and DXO Mark. The 42mp resolution is outstanding and allows you to really crop photos down. I have found the camera a real step up from the 6300. If you read the reviews about the 6500 it's an improvement over the 6300 & 6000 but some of the reviews say the touch screen is balky & not very advanced. IMO the a7rII is the superior camera.

My 2012 MacBook Pro was dead last year. I took it into the Genius Bar left it over night & they fixed it for a "grand total" of $18. It's been fine since then. Apple's service is outstanding. You should check it out it may be a very cheap repair.

I owned both. The a6300 has an upgraded sensor, focusing system and EVF. The major down side to the a6300 is overheating which Tony Northrup discusses in a couple of his podcasts. I was shooting a still life last November in Florida with the a6300. The temperature was 79, the camera was in the sun and on a tripod. After 80+ shots it shut down due to overheating. I believe Sony has attempted to address this with a software update so it might not be quite the issue on a new camera. Good luck!

If you are interested in Sony for Landscapes -I would recommend their A7RII, Excellent camera for Landscapes and not as expensive as the A9, which is better suited for fast moving objects.......

Totally agree. It seems it's for fast moving sports. The a7rII has 42 megapixels versus the a9 at 24 which IMO makes it ideal for landscapes. If you want some of the upgrades that the a9 offers e.g. superior focusing system wait and see if Sony offers an a9r or an a7rIII.

I owned the Sony a6000 for almost 2 years and now own the Sony a7rII which I have had for half a year. Not surprisingly the a7rII is a real step up and a very impressive camera. If you are concerned about the weight then get the 55mm which is an excellent lens and the camera is very light with that lens on it. However, I find I use the 70-200mm a lot more than the 55mm and it is outstanding. The camera is heavier but the results are impressive. If I could only have one lens it would be the 70-200mm.

Just went through security at London-Heathrow. They allowed the camera to remain in the bag with the lens on the camera. I traveled with a cap for the camera & lens just in case they want them separated. Flying back to JFK the camera & lenses were carried on the plane.
